The Chief of Staff holds a key leadership role in the university with a considerable degree of autonomy and breadth of responsibility. While managing the overall operation of the office of the President, the incumbent ensures that strategic and operational objectives are achieved through efficient management of projects and coordination of processes. The Chief of Staff has an externally-facing accountability for developing and maintaining positive and constructive government and community relations. In addition, the incumbent leads a team of managers and professionals who create and execute corporate communications and marketing plans, while managing emergent issues.
This unique position requires broad knowledge of business planning and post-secondary processes, communications, and government relations. Exceptional communication skills and proven experience building credibility and long-term relationships with multiple levels of government and diverse community groups are essential for success in this position. The Chief of Staff must manage multiple interests and find common ground in solutions that are both practical and innovative. An unwavering commitment to confidentiality and ethical behavior is obviously required for this position.
• An undergraduate degree in a related discipline such as Business, Communications, or Government Relations is required. A post-graduate degree would be an asset.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressively more responsible experience in public sector or government, preferably within or working directly with post-secondary institutions
