The MacEwan University Early Learning and Child Care Lab School located at the City Centre Campus requires a Child Care Worker II. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe and inspiring learning and care environment for children age 18 months to 6 years based on current theories of early childhood education, working in partnership with families, educators, university students and faculty, and the broader community. The applicant must have a good understanding of the Alberta Curriculum framework, child care licensing, accreditation, planning and implementing emergent curriculum and evident skill in observation, reflection, and documentation of children’s learning and curriculum decision making. This position is a lead position in a play room that requires active participation in a community of practice including mentoring university students from a variety of educational programs and communicating the practice of program theory by presenting in University classes and to the broader community. It involves assuming acting director responsibilities when required. Strong team skills including leadership, mentoring and coordinating team members are essential. The successful candidate will be able to articulate and model exemplary professional child care practice. Strong written and verbal skills essential.

The ability to work a variety of shifts between 7:15 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. is involve, including some occasional evenings. Applicants must be committed to ongoing professional development. This is a full-time continuing position.

Applicants must have a two year Early Learning and Child Care Diploma or equivalent, a Child Care First Aid Certificate, Child Development Supervisor Certification, clear police information check including a vulnerable sector search, and a minimum 6 months’ work experience with young children and families.
