MacEwan University’s School of Social Work is excited to offer a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree commencing September 2016. The BSW will complement our long-standing Social Work diploma program. MacEwan University will be the first Edmonton-based university to offer a BSW and the only Alberta University to offer both bachelor and diploma Social Work programs. Sustainability is the overall theme of the BSW program which offers a broad range of content including Sustainability and Social Work, Indigenous Social Work Practice, Health and Mental Health, Community Practice, and working with vulnerable children and families.
The School of Social Work invites applications for two full-time continuing appointment(s) at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing July 2016 or earlier.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong teaching skills, a commitment to social justice, evidence of research and scholarly activity, and a willingness to engage in service to the program, university and community. Applicants will have knowledge in adult learning theory, curriculum design, and the capacity to teach in blended learning environments. Faculty members are required to teach a broad range of social work courses across the curriculum in both the BSW and Diploma programs.
Preferred candidates will hold a PhD in Social Work with teaching experience in a BSW program. All candidates must have the minimum of a Masters of Social Work (MSW) with at least five years’ experience in teaching/social work practice or a combination of teaching and practice, and be eligible to be a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Alberta.
Applicants should submit a letter outlining their interest in the position, a current curriculum vitae, 3 letters of reference and a sample of scholarly work. Applicants selected for an interview will be asked to submit a statement of their teaching philosophy. Selected applicants will be required to provide a 30 minute teaching demonstration and a 30 minute scholarly presentation.
