MacEwan University Sport and Wellness has a full-time continuing opportunity for a Lifeguard/Instructor I. We are looking for an individual who wants to deliver professional, high-quality lifeguarding and instruction to our students, staff, faculty and the public. To join our team, you must be enthusiastic in promoting an aquatic environment that is enjoyable, educational and safe.
The successful candidate will be required to guard the pool in a courteous and professional manner; provide quality instruction of all lesson levels; teach water-fitness classes; complete all related administrative duties; and work collaboratively with other aquatic staff to ensure quality service is provided at all times.
The successful candidate will be a minimum of 18 years old, will be working toward the completion of a high school diploma (ideally working towards a post-secondary diploma is an asset), and have a minimum of six (6) months’ experience as a lifeguard/instructor (preferably of Lifesaving Society awards). Equivalencies will be considered.
You must hold the following:
• Current National Lifeguard, Lifesaving Instructor
• Swim for Life Instructor
• Standard First Aid/CPR
• Oxygen Therapy, Automated External Defibrillator and WHMIS certifications
• Pool Operator Level I
• AFLCA or WaterArt (or equivalent)
• NCCP Level I/II or Recreational Coach certifications are assets
You must have the ability to work with a diverse range of clients and colleagues; be able to work independently and in a team environment; have strong written and verbal communication skills.
This position will require you to have the flexibility to work daytime, evening and weekend shifts. You will also be required to stand for extended periods; carry and lift; and remain attentive in noisy, disruptive, hot and cold conditions.
This position is included under the MacEwan Staff Association Collective Agreement.
