Child Care Worker I

MacEwan University Demonstration Child Care Centre provides quality early learning and child care in an inclusive environment at City Centre Campus. The centre requires a full-time child care worker I. Responsibilities include team planning and implementation of a developmental program for children 19 months to 6 years. A child care worker I is accountable for providing an environment that encourages the total growth of the children at the centre; by entering into a relationship with the family of each child; by providing a demonstration of the philosophy, program and techniques most appropriate for young children; by demonstrating professional work habits and an awareness of current resources. The successful applicants will have strong interpersonal communication and professional team skills, and an ability to work with a diverse group of children and families.

The minimum qualification for this position is a Child Care Assistant Provincial Certification. Priority will be given to applicants with a college level course in child development. In addition a Child Care First Aid Certificate, a current, clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector search, an intervention record check and a minimum of one year of work experience with young children and families is required. The successful candidate will be able to articulate and model professional child care practice. The ability to meet the physical demands of running, bending, kneeling, carrying pulling and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) is required

This position includes an extensive MacEwan benefits package, as well as salary support through Alberta Human Services’ Accredited Day Care program.

This position is included under the MacEwan Staff Association Collective Agreement.
