Additional offerings include preparation for university and college, English as an Additional Language, professional and personal development courses and workshops, corporate training and the Alberta College Conservatory of Music.

The Aboriginal Education Centre is looking for two Student Advisors, one full time continuing and one six (6) month term. Reporting to the Director, Aboriginal Education Services, the incumbents will contribute to the success of the university mission, inspiring and enabling individuals to succeed in life through career and university studies.

These positions are accountable for advising prospective and current students on their program selection and admission to all credit programs. The Student Advisor-Recruitment plays a key role in the university’s achievement of enrollment targets and is accountable for conveying the benefits of a MacEwan University and the Aboriginal Education Centre to the public and generating and fielding inquiries and applications.

The position requires networking with university staff and faculty to keep abreast of programs and services as well as establish and maintain collaborative recruitment relationships. The incumbents will:
• Work with high school counsellors, career practitioners and other representatives with school system and the community to communicate accurate and timely information about university programs, services and student life.
• Develop and implement Aboriginal cultural programming in consultation with Elders, Aboriginal Education centre team, students, and other MacEwan and community organizations and activities.
• Demonstrate aboriginal cultural competence and awareness, including ability to work with Elders and Aboriginal cultural teachers.

The successful candidates will possess exceptional interpersonal skills and flexibility. Demonstrated effectiveness in handling confidential and stressful situations as well as a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team is required. Other skills include:

• Networking/Relationship building
• Public Speaking

A university degree with an education, communications, marketing, or public relations orientation. Two years experience in Aboriginal education and three to five years working with Aboriginal people. Knowledge of student services, post-secondary institutions and Aboriginal communities and cultures is desirable.

Position Requirements
Incumbents should own a vehicle as some travel is required.
