Faculty of Arts and Science

Competition #: 14.11.159

MacEwan University inspires students through a powerful combination of academic excellence and personal learning experiences. Located in culturally enriched, downtown Edmonton, our comprehensive undergraduate university offers over 65 programs to approximately 12,000 FTE students. With a dedication to teaching excellence informed by scholarly research and creative activity, MacEwan provides an exceptional collaborative and supportive learning environment with a commitment to environmental sustainability and opportunities for community engagement. In support of faculty professional development, unique and enhanced services are provided through the Centre for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence (CAFÉ).

The Faculty of Arts and Science at MacEwan University invites applications for the Drs. Peter and Doris Kule Chair in Ukrainian Studies, commencing July 1, 2015. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in the study of Eastern Europe, pursuing scholarship relevant to Ukraine, consistent with our institution’s longstanding commitment to this part of the world. The Kule Chair will participate fully in our academic community through a regular teaching assignment in one of our Faculty’s departments. A list is available at www.macewan.ca/wcm/SchoolsFaculties/ArtsScience/Departments.

As Director of our Ukrainian Resource Development Centre (URDC), the Kule Chair will pursue an active research program, chair its Advisory Council, and guide disbursements from an endowment, to which the successful candidate will be expected to add by securing additional funding. URDC resources will be used to encourage scholarly exchanges between MacEwan University and our partner institutions in Ukraine, to engage the Edmonton community and surrounding areas through a series of public presentations, and to provide scholarships and research opportunities to students.

Candidates for the Kule Chair must have a demonstrable record of teaching excellence, as well as a fully-developed and widely-recognized research program. Previous success in attracting external funding would be an asset. Applications for an initial, five-year term as Kule Chair, in combination with a continuing faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with background and experience, will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, beginning on December 8, 2014.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching dossier (including recent teaching evaluations), statement of research interests, sample of scholarly work, and academic transcripts. Three letters of reference, quoting the competition number, should be sent directly from referees to careers@macewan.ca.

Questions about this opportunity may be addressed to Dr. Craig Monk, Dean of the Faculty, at MonkC2@macewan.ca.

The annual salary range for a Ph.D. is $72,834 to $115,975. A review of applications will begin December 8, 2014 and will continue until shortlisting is complete.

This position is included under the Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
