MacEwan University’s School of Social Work will be offering a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree program commencing September 2016. MacEwan University will be the first Edmonton-based university to offer a BSW and the only Alberta university to offer both bachelor and diploma programs.
The Field Education Placement Coordinator will focus initially on the development and implementation of field placements with the expectation that the role will evolve to include teaching and opportunities for research. Responsibilities will include the development of field placement protocols that are in compliance with accreditation standards and the establishment of commitments with organizations for student placements commencing in January 2017.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their experience in coordinating the complete cycle of field placement from establishing relationships with agencies to understanding the processes for successfully matching students with appropriate agencies. This position requires effective leadership skills and the initiative to independently complete projects in a deadline driven environment.
Candidates must at minimum have of a Masters of Social Work (MSW), at least three years of experience at a post-secondary institution coordinating the field education placement process, and be eligible to be a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Alberta. Preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. in social work or a related discipline. This position will appeal to social work professionals who are committed to social work practice and education that focuses on social justice, is strengths and community-based, and is intra-professionally competent.
Applicants should submit a covering letter, curriculum vitae and the names of three professional references. Successful applicants will be required to complete a 45 minute presentation on best practices in social work field education.
The Coordinator position will be an Assistant Professor position reporting to the Chair of the School of Social Work.
The position is included under the Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
