Security Services has the primary responsibility for the safety and security of their staff and students at MacEwan University. This department has an exciting opportunity for a Dispatch Officer who enjoys a combination of security officer, office administration, and customer service duties. The Dispatch Officer is responsible in providing support to the university using the Communications function of MacEwan Security Services.
In this position, the incumbent will be involved in taking in complaints, dispatching services, answering emergency calls, and providing assistance to students and staff at the front counter and over the telephone. Other duties include the write up of witness statements; recover lost items; promote participation on security awareness programs to the university constituents; provide support to Parking Services, as well as assist security officers in emergency and medical response situations. To be successful in this position, the incumbent will be proficient in Microsoft Office, and is able to operate various computer software programs to monitor all plant systems and close circuit televisions.
The ability to make critical and quick decisions in emergency situations, working under pressure and strong written and verbal communication skills will make the candidate successful in this position.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a grade 12 diploma, along with a minimum of one year of customer service experience in telephone or radio communication. Equivalencies will be considered. Preference will be given to candidate with a certificate or diploma related to Emergency Communications, current first aid, and level ‘C’ CPR.
This position has rotating shift work covering 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
