Relief Child Care Lab School Worker

MacEwan University Early Learning and Child Care Lab School, located at the City Centre Campus requires Relief Child Care workers to provide coverage for staff vacation, illness or other absences.

The successful candidates must be able to articulate and model professional child care practice. In this position, the incumbent will be responsible for attending to children’s needs, protecting the health and safety of children and participating in play. The successful candidate must have the ability to problem solve and make quick on the floor decisions. The candidate must be capable and confident to take a lead position in the room.

The ideal candidate must be able to relate comfortably to children and families; demonstrate a high degree of physical and mental stamina; and demonstrate flexibility, dependability, initiative, problem solving skills, and a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Candidates must also be comfortable working with children of varying abilities including children with challenging behavior.

The successful candidates must have a minimum of a Level I Provincial Certification and a Red Cross or St. John First Aid certificate, along with a minimum of 3 months working with young children.

Upon hire into this position, the successful candidate will need to provide a clear security clearance check with vulnerable sector search.

The centre is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. The hours of work will vary and scheduled on an as needed or call-in basis.

This position is included under the MacEwan Staff Association Collective Agreement.
