Wellness & Psychological Services, a service within Student Life, is looking to fill a new Continuing Professional Resource Faculty social work position, working out of City Centre Campus. The Social Worker in this role is responsible for the following tasks: provide basic assessments of health and well-being; intervene and evaluate individuals in collaboration with the professionals involved; support students at risk, on and off campus and help them identify and understand problem areas in their lives, improve mental health literacy, help-seeking and help-giving behaviour, while building formal and informal networks of individual support. This position holder will educate, empower and engage students proactively, as directed by the Chair, through one-on-one direct service, intervention workshops, presentations and collaboration in the development of resources.
Candidates possess a Masters in Social Work with a specialization in clinical social work, and be registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW). Those in progress working toward a clinical designation will be considered. Participation in Competence Program with ACSW is an expectation of this position. Experience in promoting wellness and equity for marginalized populations who have systemically suffered from social exclusion and stigmatization is desired. Marginalized populations are considered to include women, LGBTQ persons, Aboriginal students, racial and ethnic minority community members, and persons with ongoing and significant mental or physical illnesses or developmental delays.
Demonstrated effectiveness in professionalism; working constructively in support of leadership within a team exceptional communication skills including social media and web-based resource creation and interaction; comfort with change and demonstrated flexibility; and initiative are also essential.
This position is included under the Faculty Association collective agreement.
