Librarian – Music Specialist

MacEwan University is seeking a dynamic and innovative librarian with a background in music and a strong commitment to information literacy and reference and research services. This position will require the incumbent to work at the Libraries at the City Centre and the Centre for the Arts and Communications (CFAC) campuses. The successful candidate will support and grow library services for the Music diploma and the Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music, and other subject areas yet to be determined. This full-time continuing track faculty position will commence as soon as possible.

Responsibilities of the position will include: designing and implementing a comprehensive information literacy program for the music department, incorporating the Library’s blended learning approach; developing and maintaining music collections, including oversight of approval plans, and digital resource acquisition including streamed audio and video; and participating in the delivery of general reference services and library instruction at both the City Centre and CFAC campuses.

Applicants require a Master of Library and Information Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program as well as a degree or additional post-secondary education in music. Several years of academic library experience, including reference, collection development and information literacy instruction is highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills are essential, as well as a strong customer service orientation and the ability to work collegially in a team environment.

MacEwan University, located in Edmonton, is a rapidly growing post-secondary institution with over 12,000 FTE students. The University offers a wide range of credentials on its three campuses, including bachelor degrees, applied degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Construction of a new Centre for Arts and Culture building at the MacEwan University downtown location will be completed in 2017.
