Child Care Worker I

Grant MacEwan University Demonstration Child Care Centre provides quality early learning and child care at the City Centre Campus from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday. The centre is currently hiring for one year part-time position(s). The position is responsible for either the opening or the closing of the centre and includes team planning and implementation of developmental programs for children 19 months to 5 years. A Child Care Worker I is accountable for providing an environment that encourages the total growth of the children at the Centre: by entering into a relationship with the family of each child; by providing a demonstration of the philosophy, program and techniques most appropriate for young children; and by demonstrating professional work habits and an awareness of current resources. The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal communication and professional team skills, and an ability to work with a diverse group of children and families.
The minimum qualification for this position is a Level I Provincial Certification. In addition, a St. John’s Ambulance/Red Cross Standard Child Care First Aid Certificate, a current, clear security clearance check with vulnerable sector search, an intervention record check, and a minimum of six months work experience with young children and families is required. The successful candidate will be able to articulate and model professional child care practice. The position is physically demanding as child care workers interact with children on a continuous basis requiring physical demands of running, bending, kneeling, carrying, pulling, and lifting (up to 50 lbs/22 kg).

This position is included under the MacEwan Staff Association Collective Agreement.
