Do you enjoy cooking and working with children? MacEwan University has an opportunity for a cook in the Child Care Centre. Reporting to the director, child care centre, the incumbent is responsible for the planning and preparation of a hot lunch and two snacks for 40 children between the ages of nineteen (19) months and six (6) years old. This position also requires the incumbent to plan weekly menus in advance; keep daily record of food inventory; order and purchase supplies and groceries; and work within budget to assist with cost control.
The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge and the ability to handle and cook food; work with hygiene and safety; and understand food allergies and nutrition for young children. The ideal candidate must be able to move, lift, and carry objects up to 15 kilograms.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of a certificate in Culinary Arts along with a minimum of one years’ experience cooking in a commercial kitchen. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in all areas of the kitchen and food production area. Equivalencies will be considered. First Aid certificate is an asset.

Upon hire, the successful candidate will need to provide a clear security clearance check with vulnerable sector search and child intervention record check. Enrolment in the Alberta Health Services Approved Food Handling course is required or willingness to enroll.
This position is included under the MacEwan Staff Association Collective Agreement.
