Dr Magdalena Adamek - Piano
Telephone: Magdalena Adamek holds a Master of Arts in Piano Performance from the Frederick Chopin University of Music (Warsaw, Poland) under tutelage of widely respected interpreter of Chopin's music, Professor Barbara Hesse-Bukowska, and Doctor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Alberta,, under supervision of Professor Jacques Després. Dr. Adamek also worked under the guidance of such renown pianists as Halina Czerny-Stefanska, Andrzej Jasinski, Paul Badura-Škoda, Stêphane Lemelin, Kyoko Hashimoto, and Kevin Fitz-Gerald. She has led an active performing career giving performances across Poland, Germany, Austria, Lithuania, France, China, USA, and Canada, with repertoire ranging from the classical period to the contemporary music. Her long-term artistic project involves promoting piano music by Polish composers, for instance Chopin, Moniuszko, Szymanowski, and post-romantic composer Feliks Nowowiejski. Over the past few years the artistic project concerning Nowowiejski involved world premiere recordings of Nowowiejski's music for piano solo, doctoral essay devoted to Nowowiejski's music for piano solo ("Piano Works by Feliks Nowowiejski."), presentations, and book The Unknown Face of Feliks Nowowiejski: The Piano Works, published by VDM in Germany. |
Dr Bianca Baciu - Piano
Email: Telephone: Dr. Bianca Baciu has led an active career as soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue. She has performed throughout Europe and North America and has received numerous awards such as the Marusia Yaworska Scholarship for the most talented musician in Canada, and the prestigious Izaak Walton Killam PhD Scholarship for research at the University of Alberta. Dr. Baciu earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and a Diploma in Advanced Pedagogy from Transylvania University in Romania, her Master's in Piano Performance from the University of Western Ontario and her Doctorate in Piano Performance from the University of Alberta in Canada, and has worked under the guidance of pianists such as Radu Lupu, Angela Cheng, Jane Coop, Jacques Despres and Victor Rosenbaum. |

Simon-Marc de Freitas - Piano
Telephone: Simon-Marc received his Masters of Music in Collaborative Piano Performance at the University of Toronto under Dr. Cameron Stowe and Lydia Wong. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a BMus in Piano Performance, studying with Dr. Terence Dawson and Dr. Corey Hamm. With funding from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, he attended the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland, where he studied with Kazimierz Gierzod and Malgorzata Szpinalska. |
Shannon Hiebert - Piano
Telephone: Shannon Hiebert has established herself as one of Canada's most respected artists. Known for her versatility as a pianist, she has worked profesionaly in concert and opera, symphonic and chamber music, ballet, modern dance and broadway. A native of Winnipeg, Shannon began her studies at the University of Manitoba. She went on to study at the Banff Centre for Finte Arts with Martin Isepp and pursued graduate studies in accompanying and chamber music at the University of Michigan in the studio of renowned pianist and teacher, Martin Katz. In addition to her two principal teachers, Shannon has also studied with John Wusstman and Rudolf Janzen. Much in demand as a collaborative artist, she has been heard in recital and broadcast across Canada and the United States as well as Taiwan and Japan. |
Sarah Ho - Piano
Telephone: Canadian pianist Sarah Ho was raised in Edmonton, Alberta and began piano studies at the age of six. Since that time she has been consistently recognized as soloist and chamber musician in performances, festivals and competitions across Canada, the United States and in Europe. First prizes include the Chiang-Wen Yeh International Piano Competition in Washington, D.C., the Canadian Music Competition in Ottawa, and the Society of American Musicians Contest in Chicago, Illinois. She has also twice been awarded the Sir James Lougheed Award of Distinction from the Government of Alberta. |
Eileen Kim - Piano
Telephone: As an active soloist and a chamber musician, Eileen Kim received numerous prizes and awards including the first place at the Korea National Piano Competition, the first prize at Korea Piano Duo Competition, and the winner of Seoul National Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Ms.Kim made her debut as a soloist with the Seoul National Symphony Orchestra at age eighteen which has been broadcasted on KBS (South Korea, 1998). |
Margaret King - Piano
Telephone: Margaret King earned her Bachelor of Music in piano performance, studying with Glen Montgomery, at the University of Lethbridge in 1994. Since moving to Edmonton in 1995, she has been fortunate to work with numerous choirs/choral programs including The Cantilon Choirs, Singspiration, Edmonton Children’s Choir, the Greenwood Singers and Pro Coro Canada. As well, Margaret enjoys her work as a collaborative pianist. In 2010/11 she worked with students of Jolaine Kerley at the University of Alberta. She also maintains a class of piano students at Alberta College Conservatory of Music (Grant MacEwan University). In addition, Margaret loves writing music. Two of her pieces for treble choir, ‘The Unsuitable Suitor’ and ‘Norwegian Trilogy’, are published by Boosey and Hawkes. Her most recent composition, ‘Transformations’ was commissioned by Belle Canto in January 2010. |

Ariane Lowery - Piano
Telephone: Born and raised in the Smoky River Region of Alberta, Ariane received her Bachelor of Music Degree in piano performance at the University of Alberta in 2003, studying with Ayako Tsuruta and Janet Scott Hoyt. In the summers of 2001 and 2002, she attended the Summer Festival at the Orford Art Centre in Quebec, studying with piano professors Jean-Paul Sevilla, Jean Saulnier, and Richard Raymond. After completing her undergraduate degree, Ariane studied at the University of Montreal with Paul Stewart and completed her Master of Music degree in piano performance in 2005. She then traveled and worked in the UK and Europe before returning to Edmonton in 2007. |

Robert J. Rosen - Piano
Telephone: Robert J. Rosen, composer and educator, has been in the Canadian contemporary music scene for over thirty years. His concert works, trans-disciplinary works and scores for film have been performed and broadcast in fifteen countries around the world ranging from Canada to Sweden to Uruguay and to India, amongst others. He worked for The Banff Centre for fifteen years ending his tenure as the Associate Director of Music. He was then on faculty at Mount Royal College in Calgary teaching in the Diploma and Conservatory Academy programs. There he taught Composition, Theory, Piano and Keyboard Harmony. Rosen is now on Faculty at Alberta College Conservatory in Edmonton. Recordings of his music can be found on six different CD company labels. His musical style is diverse and challenging. It has an integrity that grows from his vast experiences. He has worked with such composers as John Cage, Morton Feldman, Witold Lutoslawski, Bruce Mather and R. Murray Schafer. His works have been performed by such musicians as Robert Aitken, Jean-Pierre Drouet, Mather-Lepage Duo, Barbara Pritchard, Parmela Attariwala, Trio Phoenix amongst others. Violet Archer, one of Canada's most respected composers once told him "to always share the knowledge of music and creativity." |

Satomi Tozawa - Piano
Telephone: Satomi Tozawa from Hokkaido, Japan, completed a Master of Music, Piano Performance and Literature degree at Brandon University in Manitoba in 2009 as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. During her degree, she focused on contemporary and electroacoustic music as well as performing various pieces from baroque to contemporary with other instrumentalists. She also premiered Michael Vincent’s Flesh Color at her graduating recital. Ms. Tozawa also received a Master of Arts in Music, Ethnomusicology from the University of Alberta in 2011. Her thesis topic was “Japanese Anti-Art: Japanese Society and Influence from the West.” She is currently teaching music at various levels and ages in Edmonton, and also performing actively as an accompanist and soloist. As an accompanist, she has been working with Vocal Alchemy since 2009, and as a soloist, she has toured parts of Canada and China as part of Masaki’s Rising Stars Tour. She has also performed in parts of Japan. |
