Mr. Berg has been music director at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church since 1962 and an instructor at Alberta College Conservatory of Music since 1976, where he teaches students with a variety of interests and aptitudes. Some of his most popular classes include: Creative Music, which allows students to create compositions directly on the keyboard; Practical Piano, which covers chording and improvisation; and group lessons for beginners. In his teaching, Reinhard emphasizes playing by ear, sight-reading, and correct understanding of rhythm.

In 1976 he founded the contemporary improvisation ensemble Otherwise, and he is also a member of BEAMS (Boreal Electro Accoustic Music Society) and ECCS (Edmonton Composers Concert Society). His compositions are featured on CDs by both organizations. In November 2002, a group of his piano pieces were performed in separate concerts in Edmonton and in Warsaw. In March 2003, he completed a Canada Council commission for a group of organ pieces written for Stillman Matheson.

Geraldine Haythorne has been with Alberta College Conservatory of Music for 25 years and recently served as head of the Piano department. In her role at the Conservatory, she works with all ages from enthusiastic young beginners to the more senior students preparing for performance opportunities.

Geraldine has served as piano adjudicator for many festivals throughout western Canada and as Senior Examiner for the Western Board of Music and its successor Conservatory Canada. She has conducted workshops in piano technique, repertoire and piano pedagogy and participated in MusiCamrose’s piano camp since its inception. In addition, she has studied voice and has directed a number of church and ethnic choirs.

She holds diplomas in teaching and performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music and Western Board of Music, and is a long-time member of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers Association. Geraldine has also been active with Music Alberta and sat on the steering committee for the Alberta Music Conference for many years.

Magdalena Adamek holds a Master of Arts in Piano Performance from the Frederick Chopin University of Music (Warsaw, Poland) under tutelage of widely respected interpreter of Chopin's music, Professor Barbara Hesse-Bukowska, and Doctor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Alberta,, under supervision of Professor Jacques Després. Dr. Adamek also worked under the guidance of such renown pianists as Halina Czerny-Stefanska, Andrzej Jasinski, Paul Badura-Škoda, Stêphane Lemelin, Kyoko Hashimoto, and Kevin Fitz-Gerald. She has led an active performing career giving performances across Poland, Germany, Austria, Lithuania, France, China, USA, and Canada, with repertoire ranging from the classical period to the contemporary music. Her long-term artistic project involves promoting piano music by Polish composers, for instance Chopin, Moniuszko, Szymanowski, and post-romantic composer Feliks Nowowiejski. Over the past few years the artistic project concerning Nowowiejski involved world premiere recordings of Nowowiejski's music for piano solo, doctoral essay devoted to Nowowiejski's music for piano solo ("Piano Works by Feliks Nowowiejski."), presentations, and book The Unknown Face of Feliks Nowowiejski: The Piano Works, published by VDM in Germany.

Dr. Bianca Baciu has led an active career as soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue. She has performed throughout Europe and North America and has received numerous awards such as the Marusia Yaworska Scholarship for the most talented musician in Canada, and the prestigious Izaak Walton Killam PhD Scholarship for research at the University of Alberta. Dr. Baciu earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and a Diploma in Advanced Pedagogy from Transylvania University in Romania, her Master's in Piano Performance from the University of Western Ontario and her Doctorate in Piano Performance from the University of Alberta in Canada, and has worked under the guidance of pianists such as Radu Lupu, Angela Cheng, Jane Coop, Jacques Despres and Victor Rosenbaum.

Dr. Baciu's live performances have been broadcast on CBC Radio 2 (Canada), WDR (Germany), and Radio Romania Tineret (Romania). In 1998, she recorded her first CD featuring works by Beethoven, Brahms and Ravel, released by the Auslandgesselschaft Nordrhein-Westfalen in Germany. In 2008, Centaur Records released her world premiere CD featuring piano solo works by Canadian composer Jack Behrens. Dr. Baciu's book Death of the Author - A Tribute, discussing postmodernism in Jack Behrens's piano music was also released in 2008 by VDM Publishing in Germany.

In addition to her performance engagements, Dr. Baciu is a dedicated teacher and a sought-after clinician and adjudicator. She has taught at Transylvania University in Romania, the University of Western Ontario in London and the University of Alberta in Edmonton. She currently teaches piano and piano literature at Alberta College, Grant MacEwan University, and also maintains a full private teaching studio in Edmonton. Her students have received numerous awards and scholarships from the University of Western Ontario, Victoria School for the Arts in Edmonton, Conservatory Canada, ARMTA, APTA, Alberta College, the Kiwanis Festival and the Fall Festival in Edmonton.

An early winner of the Johann Strauss Foundation Scholarship, Robert Casgrain has taught at Alberta College Conservatory of Music since 1982. He enjoys teaching all levels of students from beginner to advanced, both young and old, including the enthusiastic adult beginner.

Robert holds associate, bachelor and masters of music degrees in piano performance. In addition to being a sought-after piano instructor, he is very active as a vocal, instrumental and choral accompanist and has served as accompanist for the Schola Cantorum Choral program since its inception. He is also assistant provincial carillonneur at the Alberta Legislature.

Simon-Marc received his Masters of Music in Collaborative Piano Performance at the University of Toronto under Dr. Cameron Stowe and Lydia Wong. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a BMus in Piano Performance, studying with Dr. Terence Dawson and Dr. Corey Hamm. With funding from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, he attended the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland, where he studied with Kazimierz Gierzod and Malgorzata Szpinalska.

In June 2003 Simon-Marc made his orchestral debut with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra under Claude Lapalme, playing Chopin's Concerto No. 2. In 2006 he was the successful recipient of the Johann Strauss Foundation Scholarship which sponsored his studies in Salzburg Austria at the Mozarteum International Summer Academy with pianist Andrez Jasinski as well as perform in Summer Masterclasses in Vienna, under Roland Batik. He has also performed in masterclasses for many other distinguished artists, including Andre Laplante, Angela Cheng, Bernadene Blaha and John Perry.

Simon-Marc is happy to be associated with the Grant MacEwan University, Conservatory of Music and looks forward to teaching students of all levels and ages. He is also a member of Alberta Registered Music Teachers and the Alberta Piano Teacher's Association. Simon-Marc is available as an accompanist/collaborative pianist for vocalists and instrumentalists.

Shannon Hiebert has established herself as one of Canada's most respected artists. Known for her versatility as a pianist, she has worked profesionaly in concert and opera, symphonic and chamber music, ballet, modern dance and broadway. A native of Winnipeg, Shannon began her studies at the University of Manitoba. She went on to study at the Banff Centre for Finte Arts with Martin Isepp and pursued graduate studies in accompanying and chamber music at the University of Michigan in the studio of renowned pianist and teacher, Martin Katz. In addition to her two principal teachers, Shannon has also studied with John Wusstman and Rudolf Janzen. Much in demand as a collaborative artist, she has been heard in recital and broadcast across Canada and the United States as well as Taiwan and Japan.

Shannon has performed as a soloist with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Her broadway credits include, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Miss Saigon,Mamma Mia and Spamalot. This past year Shannon played keyboard and made her singing and dancing debut in the Toronto cast of Dodger International's smash hit, Jersey Boys.

Shannon has worked as a pianist vocal coach with opera companies across Canada as well as the University of Toronto, University of Manitoba and the University of Alberta. Calgary Emerging Artist Program and Opera Nuova. She is currently on faculty at the Alberta College Conservatory of Music. Shannon's students has gone on to study at Universities and programs around the world, including Opera Merola, Chicago Lyric Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Calgary Emerging Artist Program, Vancouver Opera, Opera Atelier, The Britten-Pears School, Banff Centre for Fine Arts, Tanglewood, The Schubert Institute and Netherlands Opera Theatre. Her discography includes "Rhymes and Reveries", with soprano, Tracy Dahl, "Prairie Voices" with the Winnipeg Singers and "Starry Night", in benefit of Winnipeg Harvest.

Canadian pianist Sarah Ho was raised in Edmonton, Alberta and began piano studies at the age of six. Since that time she has been consistently recognized as soloist and chamber musician in performances, festivals and competitions across Canada, the United States and in Europe. First prizes include the Chiang-Wen Yeh International Piano Competition in Washington, D.C., the Canadian Music Competition in Ottawa, and the Society of American Musicians Contest in Chicago, Illinois. She has also twice been awarded the Sir James Lougheed Award of Distinction from the Government of Alberta.

Ms. Ho has been featured with orchestras across Canada including the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, the Alberta College Faculty Orchestra and the CFRN Television Orchestra. She has performed in notable venues and summer festivals around the world, including the Schubert Theatre on Broadway in New York, the Kennedy Center, the Banff Festival for the Arts, the Internationale Meisterkurse Fur Musik-Zurich, the National Arts Centre Young Artists Programme, and the Schleswig-Holstein in Germany. Other notable appearances include performances for the former Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney, and Queen Elizabeth II of England.

Ms. Ho was educated at Indiana University, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree and studied with Menahem Pressler. She completed her Master of Music degree and an Artist Diploma at Yale University with Claude Frank. Edmonton teachers include Wolfram Linnebach and Stephane Lemelin.

As an active soloist and a chamber musician, Eileen Kim received numerous prizes and awards including the first place at the Korea National Piano Competition, the first prize at Korea Piano Duo Competition, and the winner of Seoul National Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition. Ms.Kim made her debut as a soloist with the Seoul National Symphony Orchestra at age eighteen which has been broadcasted on KBS (South Korea, 1998).

Ms. Kim was born in South Korea, and started her musical education at the age of six. After she trained at prestigious Yewon Arts School and Seoul Arts High School, she earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (2001) from Ewha Womens University in Seoul, Korea. In 2005, she received Beryl Barns Memorial Graduate Award, Alberta Minister of Advanced Education Award, Queen Elizabeth Scholarship (former Province of Alberta Scholarship), Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Scholarship for Piano, and Provost Doctoral Entrance Award from the University of Alberta where she earned her Master of Music degree. She has participated in summer music programs and festivals in South Korea, Italy, France and Canada, and master classes with world-renowned pianists such as Lazar Berman, André Leplante, Ewa Poblocka, Mayron Tsong, Jean Paul Sevilla, and Angela Cheng. Her principal piano teachers have been Kyung Mi Lee, Young Lim Ham, Jacques Després, and Patricia Tao.

Ms. Kim worked as a principle instructor for Piano Proficiency and an accompanist at the University of Alberta where she is currently, pursuing her doctoral studies.

Margaret King earned her Bachelor of Music in piano performance, studying with Glen Montgomery, at the University of Lethbridge in 1994. Since moving to Edmonton in 1995, she has been fortunate to work with numerous choirs/choral programs including The Cantilon Choirs, Singspiration, Edmonton Children’s Choir, the Greenwood Singers and Pro Coro Canada. As well, Margaret enjoys her work as a collaborative pianist. In 2010/11 she worked with students of Jolaine Kerley at the University of Alberta. She also maintains a class of piano students at Alberta College Conservatory of Music (Grant MacEwan University). In addition, Margaret loves writing music. Two of her pieces for treble choir, ‘The Unsuitable Suitor’ and ‘Norwegian Trilogy’, are published by Boosey and Hawkes. Her most recent composition, ‘Transformations’ was commissioned by Belle Canto in January 2010.

Ms. Sze Sze Lam has been a private instructor for many years before joining the staff of Alberta College Conservatory of Music in 2009. She enjoys teaching students of all skill levels and ages and is passionate about helping students to discover and develop their music talents. Aside from practical learning, Ms. Sze Sze also uses a variety of tools and techniques to motivate and stimulate the learning of her students. Some of the techniques and tools she uses are: crafts, games, singing, computer, discussions and written assignments.

In addition to her teaching career, Ms. Sze Sze is currently an accompanist with the Edmonton Chinese Christian Choir, and a keyboard player at her church. She has had many opportunities to work with different conductors and has also taken part in chamber music, concerto accompaniment, and vocal collaborative. Most recently, she received her ARCT in performance under the guidance of Dr. Alexandra Munn.

In addition to her work as an instructor at Alberta College Conservatory of Music, Judy Loewen is sought after throughout the province for her skill as an accompanist and continuo player. At the Conservatory, she accepts students over six years of age at all levels of experience and holds regular student recitals as part of her teaching program.

A native Edmontonian, Judy graduated from the University of Alberta (U of A) with a bachelor of music in piano performance as a student of Helmut Brauss. More recently she received a master of music in harpsichord performance, studying with Richard Troeger at the U of A.

Dorothy Lou has been an instructor at Alberta College Conservatory of Music since 1974. She is a natural and gifted instructor, who enjoys teaching immensely. In addition to her work with the Conservatory, she has also taught in Toronto and at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She earned her licentiate of music from the University of Toronto in 1969 and also has an A.R.C.T. in Piano Performance.

Dorothy teaches all grades of piano, working with students in exploring, appreciating and creating music. She finds it most rewarding when students can achieve their utmost, and is delighted to see many of her students go on to become accomplished professional musicians.

Born and raised in the Smoky River Region of Alberta, Ariane received her Bachelor of Music Degree in piano performance at the University of Alberta in 2003, studying with Ayako Tsuruta and Janet Scott Hoyt. In the summers of 2001 and 2002, she attended the Summer Festival at the Orford Art Centre in Quebec, studying with piano professors Jean-Paul Sevilla, Jean Saulnier, and Richard Raymond. After completing her undergraduate degree, Ariane studied at the University of Montreal with Paul Stewart and completed her Master of Music degree in piano performance in 2005. She then traveled and worked in the UK and Europe before returning to Edmonton in 2007.

Ariane is actively involved in accompanying and collaborative work as well as teaching. She has performed with various chamber groups, choirs, vocalists and solo instrumentalists in both Edmonton and Montreal. Ariane has been teaching privately for over ten years and also taught at The Westmount Piano Studio while in Montreal. She joined the Alberta College Conservatory of Music piano faculty in January 2007 and is accepting students of all ages and levels.

A very accomplished and multi-talented professional, Inna Luzanac possesses over 17 years of proven expertise in the areas of piano solo performance, piano instruction, all aspects of music theory, adjudication, and choir direction. Educationally, she holds two diplomas (Piano Performance, Pedagogy and Concert Master) from the Lviv State Conservatory, and S. Krushelnytska Music School, Ukraine.

Inna has ten years experience teaching students at any level (including B. Mus and B. Arts students) at Augustana University. Performance experience includes; The Saint-Saëns Concert #5 as soloist with the Lviv Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Lviv, Ukraine in 1985, performances on Vatican Radio in Rome, Italy, including a live performance for Pope John Paul II, solo concert in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1995, Concert Master and Accompanist for the State Polytechnical Institute of Lviv Choir which toured in Italy, Poland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Estonia and Ukraine, first place in Lviv School of Music Piano Competition in 1977 at age 12 and recently released a CD of a live performance as an accompanist to two singers, violinist and flutist, includes Piano Duet for Two Pianos by Shostakovich.

Inna is a graduate of Russian training, which demands the highest commitment and investment from students. Technique and hand position are basic necessities and foundations, which are built upon and perfected as students progress. To arrive at the best results, every student deserves and individual approach.

Inna believes very strongly in connecting with students on a personal level. It has always been her philosophy that even the best technique can only spring to life when the music touches the heart. Then only can the full potential of the whole artist and human being be realized.

Karen McNaughton has been actively teaching and performing in and around the Edmonton area since completing her bachelor of music degree at the University of Alberta in 1973. During her thirty-year career, she has established herself as a talented instructor, who excels at both guiding and inspiring students. She is also an accomplished accompanist to some of Edmonton’s most talented instrumentalists.

Ms. McNaughton enjoys teaching a variety of music from baroque to pop and also a variety of methods from rote learning and playing by ear, to standard note reading. Although she does not place any particular emphasis on Royal Conservatory exams, she will work to prepare and accommodate students who desire to explore that route.

Carol Mellors is a piano instructor at Alberta College Conservatory of Music. She teaches piano, all theoretical subjects and piano pedagogy following Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada syllabi.

Carol has served as president of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers’ Association (ARMTA) and the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Association (CFMTA); was on the Steering Committee of the Western Board of Music in 1989, and the Western Board as vice president human resources until July 1998. She has been a Western Board Piano and Electronic Organ examiner for 10 years and is a festival, scholarship and awards adjudicator.

She is currently pianist for the Edmonton Women’s Canadian Club, ARMTA liaison to Conservatory Canada and the Royal Conservatory of Music, and director of the Intermediate Piano Workshop MusiCamrose, Music Alberta. Carol is also a member of the Conservatory’s Summer Piano Camp committee and plays in an established piano repertoire group.

Alexandra Munn began piano study in Calgary, Alberta and with the strong influence and preparation of Dr. Gladys McKelvie Egbert was accepted to the Juilliard School of Music N.Y.C. studying with Irwin Freundlich. Vocal/chamber studies were with Sergius Kagen, Robert Mann and Fritz Lehman with further piano study with Guido Agosti, Accademia Chigiana, Siena, Italy. Her career includes many summers at the Banff Centre as Opera Coach, Academy of Singing, and as one of the founding faculty of the Musical Theatre Division.

During her tenure as Professor of Music, University of Alberta she conducted the DaCamera Singers, The Edmonton Opera Chorus, the Richard Eaton Singers and was pianist with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

She has performed as soloist, assisting artist and host for regional and national programs for CBC Radio/TV and CTV. She also has served as music festival adjudicator from Victoria, B.C., to Yellowknife, N.W.T. to Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Alexandra is honoured to be a member of Edmonton's Cultural Hall of Fame. Y.W.C.A. Woman of the Year in the Arts and a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal.

Glenda Murphy has been an instructor at Alberta College Conservatory of Music since 1994. She enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities, and over the years has taught a number of students with learning disabilities and/or physical challenges. Her student recitals often feature ensemble performances, and it is this sharing of music that has become an important part of her instructional focus and philosophy.

She holds a diploma (ARCT Piano) in performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and has studied pipe organ and vocal training. She has accompanied many vocalists, instrumentalists, choral groups and choirs, including the St. David's Welsh Male Voice Choir and the annual "Men Making Music" massed choir concert held at the Winspear Centre. She is organist at Sherwood Park United Church, a member of the advisory board for the Music Week in Naramata, B.C., and a member of the Alberta Registered Music Teachers' Association (ARMTA).

Robert J. Rosen, composer and educator, has been in the Canadian contemporary music scene for over thirty years. His concert works, trans-disciplinary works and scores for film have been performed and broadcast in fifteen countries around the world ranging from Canada to Sweden to Uruguay and to India, amongst others. He worked for The Banff Centre for fifteen years ending his tenure as the Associate Director of Music. He was then on faculty at Mount Royal College in Calgary teaching in the Diploma and Conservatory Academy programs. There he taught Composition, Theory, Piano and Keyboard Harmony. Rosen is now on Faculty at Alberta College Conservatory in Edmonton. Recordings of his music can be found on six different CD company labels. His musical style is diverse and challenging. It has an integrity that grows from his vast experiences. He has worked with such composers as John Cage, Morton Feldman, Witold Lutoslawski, Bruce Mather and R. Murray Schafer. His works have been performed by such musicians as Robert Aitken, Jean-Pierre Drouet, Mather-Lepage Duo, Barbara Pritchard, Parmela Attariwala, Trio Phoenix amongst others. Violet Archer, one of Canada's most respected composers once told him "to always share the knowledge of music and creativity."

His piano instruction ranges from preparation for RCM or Canada Conservatory examinations, to students who want to relearn to play for the joy of performing. His Creative Music instruction covers all styles and all ages.

Master in Music – St. Petersburg Conservatory

Marina Stolyar was born in St. Petersburg Russia to the family of well-known musicians. Her father, Vladimir Stolyar, was the principal cellist and conductor of the renowned Leningrad Symphony Orchestra and a professor of the Leningrad Conservatory. Her mother Luba Stolyar, was a violinist with the same orchestra as well as a member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

Marina began studying piano at the age of 3. At the age of 5 she has started her formal training at the Leningrad Special School of Music for Gifted Children. In 1975 Mrs. Stolyar received her Master Degree of Music from the famous Leningrad Conservatory graduating with top honors from the class of Professor Pavel Serebryakov, People’s Artist of USSR and one of the most brilliant soviet pianist of his time. Marina also studied accompaniment with Professor S. Vakman and chamber class with Professor M. Bazikina – both are well-known soviet musicians. Mrs. Stolyar has won numerous competitions and performed in many solo and chamber recitals.

From 1973 to 1979, Mrs. Stolyar was on the staff of Leningrad Conservatory. Since arriving in Edmonton, Mrs. Stolyar has joined the staff of Alberta College Conservatory of Music. She has achieved a great deal of recognition as a teacher, soloist and a member of different chamber groups. Marina’s students have won many competitions at the local, provincial and national levels.

Mrs. Stolyar is a busy performer who is also playing in all the society’s very successful concerts together with Edmonton’s leading musicians including principal members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra: Martin Riseley, Colin Ryan, Evan Verchomin, Tanya Prochazka, Janet Scott Hoyt, Steven and Sue Jane Briant, Diane New, Jonathan Craig, Don Ross, Neria Mayer, Jan Urke, Stefan Jungkind, and many others.

Satomi Tozawa from Hokkaido, Japan, completed a Master of Music, Piano Performance and Literature degree at Brandon University in Manitoba in 2009 as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. During her degree, she focused on contemporary and electroacoustic music as well as performing various pieces from baroque to contemporary with other instrumentalists. She also premiered Michael Vincent’s Flesh Color at her graduating recital. Ms. Tozawa also received a Master of Arts in Music, Ethnomusicology from the University of Alberta in 2011. Her thesis topic was “Japanese Anti-Art: Japanese Society and Influence from the West.” She is currently teaching music at various levels and ages in Edmonton, and also performing actively as an accompanist and soloist. As an accompanist, she has been working with Vocal Alchemy since 2009, and as a soloist, she has toured parts of Canada and China as part of Masaki’s Rising Stars Tour. She has also performed in parts of Japan.

David Tutt has been a part of the teaching staff at Alberta College Conservatory of Music since 1992. A student of Gyorgy Sebök, David has performed solo, chamber, and orchestral repertoire in Canada, USA and Europe. He has recorded for CBC, BBC (England), DRS (Switzerland) and Radio Iceland, and had his Wigmore Hall debut in 1988.

David is the recipient of the ARCT Gold Medal, and of the Government of Alberta Achievement and CFMTA Young Artists Awards. He performed with the Orford Quartet and the Fine Arts Quartet in the Banff Winter Cycle Programme, and premiered Rosen’s Concerto for piano and orchestra (with Calgary Philharmonic) as part of the Banff Centre’s 50th Anniversary

A native Calgarian, Cameron Watson brings to Alberta College Conservatory of Music his broad view of music, refusing to limit his range of experiences to just “piano.” In addition to teaching and performing throughout Canada, he has recorded numerous solo programs for CBC; written music for theatre, film and dance; and performed both as pianist and narrator in interdisciplinary projects combining dance, visual art and poetry.

Cameron holds a bachelor of music with distinction in piano performance from the University of Calgary and a master of music in performance and composition from the University of Western Ontario. He has also studied at the University of British Columbia, The Banff School of Fine Arts, and in Switzerland under the Canada Council. Cameron’s key teachers include Boris Roubakine, Leonard Isaacs, William Aide, Jane Coop and the eminent Gyorgy Sebök as well as composers Luigi Zanninnelli and Dr. Gerhardt Wuensch. After studying filmmaking at New York University, he also translated his lifelong love of dance and music into a documentary entitled “Dancessence” produced by ACCESS Television.
