Aquatic Retrofit and Fitness Expansion
In May 2012, work will begin on the aquatics facility in the Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness to bring the pool up to current mechanical, air-handling and lighting standards. As a result, the pool and hot tub will be temporarily closed until January 13, 2013. A portion of the fitness area will also be closed to provide access to the pool‘s mechanical systems.
Based on the work of a University Review Task Team over the past year, the MacEwan Board of Governors approved a recommendation for a one-time allocation of $5M capital fund to update the aquatics facility and increase fitness space.
Work has begun on the patio area on the south-west corner of the Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness which will be part of the eventual expansion of the fitness centre. This will provide more fitness space and equipment to better serve clients’ health and lifestyle needs.

Aquatic Centre
MacEwan Sport and Wellness boasts a beautiful 25-metre pool featuring a shallow teach area for little ones and Edmonton's only in-pool climbing wall. Drop-in aquatics classes, lane swim, private parties and public swim times are available. A 40-person hot tub and steam rooms are also available in the brightly-lit, relaxing aquatic space.
