MacEwanSecure Wireless

This page contains basic information on how to connect to MacEwan's wireless network (MacEwanSecure). Instructions are included for many basic devices/operating systems.

If you have changed your password recently, you will most likely have to update your password for the wireless login. The instructions for each Operating System include a guide for forgetting the network, which will allow you to put in your new password.

Instructions for Windows devices

Windows 7

  1. Open the network list by clicking the wireless icon down by the clock. This will bring up a list of all available wireless networks.
  2. Select MacEwanSecure and click on connect to be brought to an authentication menu
  3. Enter your MacEwan network username and password (the same as the ones you use to log in to myPortal.macewan.ca)
  4. Once you put in your login credentials, a certificate will pop up, giving you the options ‘Terminate’ and ‘Connect’. Click on ‘Connect’ for the connection to be completed.

Windows 7 Forget Network

  1. Click on the wireless icon by the clock to bring up a list of available wireless networks
  2. Click on ‘Open Network and Sharing Center’
  3. In the top left of the Networking and Sharing Center, there will be an option that says ‘Manage wireless networks.' Click on this option, and you will see a list of all your saved networks
  4. Find MacEwanSecure in the list of networks, click on it, then click on remove (located on the bar across the top)
  5. The network has now been forgotten and you will be prompted once again for your login credentials when attempting to connect

Windows 8.1

  1. Open the network list by clicking the wireless icon down by the clock. This will bring up a list of all available wireless networks.
  2. Select MacEwanSecure and click on connect to be brought to an authentication menu, 
  3. Input your MacEwan username and password (the same as you use to log in to myPortal.macewan.ca)
  4. An authentication certificate will come up, and you will be given the options ‘Connect’ and ‘Cancel’
  5. Click on ‘Connect’ to complete the connection to the network

Windows 8.1 Forget Network

  1. Open the network list by clicking the wireless icon down by the clock.
  2. At the top of the network list will be an option that says ‘View Connection Settings’, click on this.
  3. At the top of the new page, click on the option that says ‘Manage known networks’. You will then be brought to a list of all your saved networks.
  4. Find MacEwan Secure in the list, click on in, and then click on ‘Forget’.
  5. When you attempt to connect to MacEwan Secure again, you will now be asked to put in your login credentials.

Windows 10

  1. Open the network list by clicking the wireless icon down by the clock. This will bring up a list of all available wireless networks.
  2. Select MacEwanSecure and click on connect to be brought to an authentication menu.
  3. Enter your MacEwan username and password (the same as you use to log in to myPortal.macewan.ca).
  4. An authentication certificate will come up, and you will be given the options ‘Connect’ and ‘Cancel’.
  5. Click on ‘Connect’ to complete the connection to the network.

Windows 10 Forget Network

  1. Open the network list by clicking the wireless icon down by the clock.
  2. At the bottom of the screen, click on the option that says ‘Network settings’
  3. On this new screen, click on the option that says ‘Manage Wi-Fi settings’
  4. Finally, scroll to the bottom of the page to the heading that says ‘Manage known networks’. There will be a list of known networks. Find MacEwanSecure among the list. Click on it and then click on ‘Forget’.
  5. When you attempt to connect to MacEwan Secure again, you will now be asked to put in your login credentials.

Instructions for Android devices

Android

The following steps will vary between Android models, however the same general steps will be similar.
  1. Navigate to your phone's settings, and find the option for Wi-Fi. (This can often be found in the quick access menu by placing your finger at the top of the screen and dragging down).
  2. A list of available Wi-Fi connections will appear. Tap on MacEwanSecure to connect. You will be asked to input your username and password. These credentials are the same ones that you use to log in to myPortal.MacEwan.ca.
  3. Some devices may have a couple other options that are required. If the connections asks for EAP authentication, select PEAP. If the connection asks for a CA Certificate, select ‘Do Not Validate’ from the list of options.

Android Forget Network

The following steps will vary between Android models, however the same general steps will be similar.
  1. Navigate to your phone's settings, and find the option for Wi-Fi. (This can often be found in the quick access menu by placing your finger at the top of the screen and dragging down)
  2. A list of available Wi-Fi connections will appear. Find MacEwanSecure among the list, and long press (hold your finger on it) instead of just tapping. An option menu will appear. Select the option that says 'Forget Network.’
  3. The network has been forgotten. The next time you tap on MacEwanSecure, you will be asked to input your login credentials once again.

Instructions for Apple (iOS/Macintosh) devices

iOS

  1. Navigate to your phone's settings.
  2. Near the top there will be an option for Wi-Fi, tap this to be brought to the Wi-Fi Connection screen.
  3. A list of available Wi-Fi connections will appear. Tap on MacEwanSecure to connect. You will be asked to input your username and password. These credentials are the same ones that you use to log in to your portal.
  4. An authentication certificate may pop up after you attempt to connect, if this happens, hit ‘Trust’ and the connection will be completed.

iOS Forget Network

  1. To forget your Wi-Fi credentials, first navigate to your phone's settings.
  2. Near the top there will be an option for Wi-Fi; tap this to be brought to the Wi-Fi Connection screen.
  3. Above the list of available networks will be the networks we are currently connected to. Tap on MacEwanSecure and you will be brought to a screen with various configuration options. At the very top will be an option that says ‘Forget this network’. Tap this and the network will be forgotten.

Macintosh

  1. In the top righthand corner of the screen, near the clock, will be the Wi-Fi icon. Click on this.
  2. A list of available networks will be presented. Click on MacEwanSecure to connect.
  3. Enter your login credentials in the presented area. These credentials are the same ones you use to login to your myPortal.MacEwan.ca

Macintosh Forget Network

  1. In the top righthand corner of the screen, near the clock, will be the Wi-Fi icon. Click on this.
  2. Under the list of available networks, there will be an option that says ‘Open Network Preferences…’; click on this.
  3. On the next screen, in the bottom right, click on the option that says ‘Advanced’.
  4. Find MacEwanSecure in the list of preferred networks. Click on it, then click on the minus button, which is located underneath the list of networks.
  5. Hit ‘Ok’, then ‘Apply’. The next time you attempt to connect to MacEwanSecure, you will be asked to put in your login credentials once more.
