MacEwan Transportation Services’ popular Make Magic fundraiser launches its first spring edition to benefit local non-profit

From March 15 to April 14, MacEwan University’s Transportation Services is launching its first spring edition of Make Magic—an annual campaign that reduces parking fines for faculty, staff, students and event parking patrons to just $15 and turns them into charitable donations.

During last year’s holiday season, Make Magic raised over $12,000 for Adopt-a-Family (SAMU’s student-run charity) and Boyle Street Community Services.

Now, Transportation Services is looking to expand their support of Edmonton’s community and help you pay off those pesky fines for a good cause.

“Over the past couple of years there has been increased interest from staff and students about the possibility of expanding Make Magic to include a spring version to end the Winter term,” says Jim MacDonald, director of Transportation Services. “So with the success of last winter’s Make Magic, we have decided to roll out a new spring campaign.”

For the new spring edition, Make Magic proceeds will benefit You Can Ride 2 (YCR2)—a local non-profit that makes cycling accessible for kids with disabilities. The program brings cycling and therapy professionals together to provide each child with a bike that fits their specific needs.

YCR2 program coordinator Molly Turnbull says riding bikes helps kids have fun, connect with each other and strengthen themselves in new ways. It’s also great exercise, especially during surgery recovery, and helps break down social barriers. For more information on You Can Ride 2, visit youcanride2.ca.

Clear up your conscience and get rid of those pesky parking fines by visiting the MacEwan Transportation Services website or stop by the Parking Office (Room 6-122).
