Governance

According to its mandate in the Alberta Post-Secondary Learning Act, Grant MacEwan University governs itself with a bi-cameral governance model, consisting of a Board of Governors and an Academic Governance Council (AGC).

The Board of Governors assumes authority for business governance

The Academic Governance Council has authority over academic governance.

While senior authority rests with the Board of Governors, both bodies conduct their affairs effectively, and respect jurisdictional borders. Both have a desire to serve the greater good of the university and capitalize on their shared interests while balancing and sharing authority within a civil and productive relationship.

The Board of Governors and AGC operate at the highest level of institutional governance, relying on effective structures to ensure the university honours its mission, mandate, values and vision while complying with legislative requirements.
