John McGrath
John McGrath has served MacEwan for over 26 years in a variety of technical and leadership positions related to information systems, communications and networking technology, distributed learning technologies, and academic support services.
John earned certificates from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in both Network Design and Systems Support, and is a graduate of the Computer Based Information Systems program at the University of Victoria. He also holds a Masters in Distributed Education from Royal Roads University, and is a graduate of the Academic Leadership Academy.
As the senior officer responsible for technology and information services, John’s responsibilities include establishing the institutional vision for enterprise architecture including applications, computing and network infrastructure, data security, and information technology management standards. He oversees the budget, planning, and operation of a variety of information and communications technologies in support of administrative and academic functions; the development and deployment of enterprise solutions to support business and academic requirements, and enterprise resource planning and business intelligence solutions in support of the university’s strategic objectives. He is also responsible for distributed synchronous and asynchronous technologies that support teaching and learning, academic computing, and MacEwan’s classroom technology infrastructure. John is also responsible for ensuring that learner and faculty supports in the use of technology are effective and responsive, including the operation of a portal and technology support desk service. The CIO also has overall responsibility for library services at MacEwan, and working with the Provost and Deans, provides leadership to MacEwan’s distributed and distance learning initiatives.
