Vice-President Finance and Administration
Brent Quinton holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta. He obtained his Chartered Accountant designation after articling with Coopers & Lybrand, Chartered Accountants. Subsequently Brent obtained his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alberta. After obtaining his C.A. designation Brent worked in public practice as a senior manager and then took a Controller position in the non-profit sector. Prior to working at MacEwan, Brent was the Finance Manager at Economic Development Edmonton. Brent is currently a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta (ICAA), the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), and the Society for College and University Planners (SCUP).
Brent joined MacEwan in 1995 as the Director of Finance and was appointed to the role of Chief Financial Officer in 2002. Additional duties were added over several years and in 2005 Brent was appointed to his current role as Vice-President.
In his current role, Brent works closely with the President; Provost and Executive Vice-President Academic; Vice-President Student Services and other senior University leaders to ensure MacEwan meets its commitments to students as outlined in the institution’s strategic plan. Key aspects of this role are the provision of strategic advice to senior decision-making groups, setting vision and goals for service and support areas, and driving change that supports ancillary operations to meet the changing needs of the University. A key function of this position also includes the development of senior staff, participating and leading numerous internal and external committees and acting as a key liaison and support to the Board of Governors sub-committees (Audit and Finance, Campus Planning, Risk Management).
The Vice-President University Services is responsible for leading support and ancillary departments to ensure adequate and appropriate services are delivered to help the University meet its strategic goals. In addition, this position is responsible for providing strategic advice to help position the University for the future. Brent has played key roles in numerous areas including the development of financial models and plans to provide operational sustainability for the organization, development and implementation of campus development plans, and enhancement of human resource supports and capabilities. The Vice-President also plays a key role in the development of business processes changes and related management information systems implementations and changes. Change management is a significant component of this role to ensure MacEwan continues to meet the future needs of its students.
