Kira HladunKira Lynn Hladun had already experienced unprecedented success before her graduation from MacEwan University's Music diploma (comprehensive major) the spring of 2012. And on Thursday, November 8th, she'll reach a new milestone in her young but stellar career when she launches her second CD, Something Like Love, at the Westbury Theatre at the Transalta Arts Barn (10220 - 84 Ave.), starting at 7:00 p.m.

Truly a crossover artist

She has performed at over 150 events since 2008 to enthusiastic audiences. Her debut album, Modern Soul, contained all original music compositions, and was released in 2010 at the Red Piano Bar in West Edmonton Mall. It has enjoyed extensive air play on country as well as pop, jazz, folk, and rock radio stations. Audiences at the Winspear Centre, Myer Horowitz Theatre, Northlands Agricom and the Shaw Conference Centre, to name just a few, have thrilled to her performances.

Community involvement

Always a great supporter of non-profit and charitable organizations, Hladun has willingly lent her talent to fundraisers at numerous events, such as those supporting breast cancer research, kidney disease, children's charities, and heart and stroke treatment, among others. She helped to write, and was the lead singer in, the Youth Power theme song and has appeared on numerous local and national television talk shows. Her generosity continues as she donates part of the ticket sales from her upcoming CD launch to the Maier Centre for Autism in Edmonton. She feels that in addition to helping a worthy cause, playing for charitable events has furthered her awareness and has allowed her to stretch her creativity further. Hladun has spent two summers in Nashville, learning from the professionals there and soaking up the atmosphere while performing at numerous venues.

Acknowledges help

"I would like to acknowledge Rawlco Radio for their support of my music. I feel honoured to be an award recipient of the 10K20 grant for my second album," she says, adding that Klaus Maier of Bavaria BMW, who sponsored the upcoming release concert, has also been instrumental in promoting her work. "Thank you, everyone, for your ongoing support of my music," she concludes.
