4 awesome things our staff and faculty received recognition for this month
MacEwan University celebrates the good news of our staff and faculty. Here are a few recent accomplishments.
As part of Canada 150 celebrations, the Canadian Nurses Association honoured 150 nurses who “continue to pioneer health innovation in Canada and around the world.” Colette Foisy-Doll, director of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, and Sharon Chadwick, faculty member in the Centre for Professional Nursing Education, were each recognized with the CNA’s 150 Nurses for Canada Award.
At the amiskwaciy Academy graduation ceremony in June, sociology Assistant Professor Emily Milne received a Pemberton Blanket from elders in recognition of her volunteer work with the school and the support she provides its students. The blanket is a symbol of being wrapped in the physical and spiritual respect of the community from which it is received, and demonstrates great honour, respect and admiration for the recipient.
A sterling year for four faculty members in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications. Assistant Professor Melissa Cuerrier, Dean Allan Gilliland, Associate Professor Jim Guedo and faculty member Dave Horak were nominated for Sterling Awards for their respective outstanding work in Edmonton’s theatre community. Dave Horak walked away with the Outstanding Director Award. MacEwan University also wishes to congratulate its past students and alumni on their nominations.
The Edmonton and Area Corporate Challenge Games wrapped in June, and the spirited staff and faculty at MacEwan University played hard and had fun competing against local businesses, non-profits and post-secondary institutions. The MacEwan University team placed 11th overall and made it to fourth place in “spirit points” for good sportsmanship.
