Funding and Awards

 

MacEwan International Study Abroad Awards are available to MacEwan students to assist with costs associated with tuition for MacEwan education abroad programs. A MacEwan education abroad program is defined as one of the following MacEwan-sanctioned international activities that count for credit toward program completion requirements: student exchanges, field course, field school, term study abroad, unpaid international practica, and unfunded internships.

1.  Value: $500  (tuition credit)

Number: Varies

For study abroad programs of three weeks minimum to less than 15 weeks (i.e. less than one academic term)

2.  Value: $1000  (tuition credit)

Number: Varies

For study abroad programs of a minimum of 15 weeks, or equivalent to one full academic term of study or more

Conditions: Application form must be accompanied by a letter of intent of 500 words or less, double spaced, describing the proposed study or work abroad program, focusing on the content and components; comments on personal suitability in terms of character, inter cultural experience, linguistic aptitude/competence, etc; and financial requirements. Two letters of reference are required: one must address the applicant's academic suitability and one must address personal suitability. Recipients must be willing to make a presentation to Grant MacEwan University students and/or staff about their experience abroad. 

The following international categories are NOT eligible for this award: (1) Visiting Students/Letter of Permission - credit or non-credit international study opportunities identified and undertaken independently (2) Student Delegations - non-credit participation as a representative of a student delegation of a Students' Association club or group (3) Student Conferences - non-credit participation as a student delegate at an International conference (4) Athletics - non-credit participation in athletic tournaments or competitions.
