Requirements
There are no formal admission requirements for entering the USI program, but we will need to know about your English language proficiency and your educational background. We will also want to know what MacEwan program you eventually wish to enter following completion of the USI program. Check the tabs for what to submit with your application.
Timelines
The USI program has 3 intakes per year: January, September and May. You can expect a letter of acceptance (LOA) to be sent within 7-10 working days of us receiving your application.
We suggest you apply 3-4 months before your intended intake to give yourself time to obtain a study permit to Canada.
In order to assess your application you will be asked to provide the following documents in both the issuing language and certified word for word English translations.
- Secondary/High School documents
- Graduation certificates (if applicable)
- Post-secondary/Higher Education documents (if applicable)
- Results of any standardized English language tests such as TOEFL or IELTS.
- Any other documents as requested by the Office of the Registrar.
There is no minimum level of English language proficiency required to enter the USI program. If you have not completed a TOEFL or IELTS test before entering USI, (or scored below 5.5 IELTS; 70 iBT TOEFL) you will be given a placement test upon arrival at MacEwan. This test will determine your entry level of English study in MacEwan’s English Language Institute.
If your test score is above 5.5 IELTS; 70 iBT TOEFL, but below that required for entering your goal program you will be enrolled in MacEwan’s highest level of English language preparation, English 0106. You may also have the opportunity to take 1 or 2 courses from your goal program.
