From discovering what makes stain removers work to how soda or sugar water affects the growth of a plant, chemistry gives you the inside story of how chemistry has a place in almost every aspect of our lives.
Chemistry is a basic science whose central concerns are the structure and behaviour of atoms, the composition and properties of compounds, the reactions between substances with their accompanying energy exchange and the laws that unite these phenomena into a comprehensive system.
Chemistry is one of three disciplines, which make up the Department of Physical Sciences at MacEwan.
The Chemistry Resource Centre at MacEwan
Students of chemistry will develop strong practical skills (laboratory techniques) in addition to the theoretical in-classroom skills. In an effort to help students master all aspects of Chemistry, the Department of Physical Sciences maintains the Chemistry Resource Centre (CRC), which is a room permanently set aside as a place for students to gather to study chemistry. Students can drop in at any time during the day and meet with other students working on the same assignments and lab reports. As well, the room is regularly staffed by chemistry faculty who are available to provide students with help as they discover chemistry.
The course list identifies approved courses that MacEwan University may offer. Not all courses will be offered every year and some courses are restricted to particular programs. Contact an advisor in your program for information on course availability.
