The School of Business Alumni Advisory Committee advises the Dean of Business (Dean), and liaises with MacEwan University Alumni Advisory Council and MacEwan University Alumni Relations and Services, on matters relating to alumni activities, programs, services and strategic priorities

Fabjola Gera

BCom (International Business major), 2014

Fabjola graduated from the Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in International Business in 2014.

She is currently completing her third year of law school at the University of Alberta as a visiting student where she is a volunteer caseworker with the Student Legal Services Criminal Project. She will graduate with her Juris Doctorate in June 2017 from Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law and return to Edmonton to complete her articles at Alberta Counsel.

Fun fact: Fabjola is an ice cream connoisseur.

Emmett Hartfield

BCom (Management Major), 2010

Emmett holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from MacEwan University. Since 2010, he has been directly involved with numerous large-scale developments throughout Edmonton and Northern Alberta. In June 2013, he formed Intelligence House Ltd., a highly successful research and marketing agency in the real estate industry within Western Canada.

Intelligence House Ltd. is now marketing and selling over $400 million in multi-family assets in the Greater Edmonton Area. The research, marketing, and sales divisions combined now consist of over 30 employees and have been featured in numerous media publications.     

Fun fact: Emmett is a former elite hockey player at the AAA, Junior, and Collegiate levels.

Matt MacDonald

BCom (Management major), 2012

Matt Graduated from MacEwan with a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Management. He then joined Elevate Consulting, a medium-sized management consulting firm.

Through working with Elevate, Matt was exposed to a wide variety of post-secondary, municipal and provincial government organizations and ministries. The nature of the work focused on supporting organizations and senior executive in project management, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, change management and evaluation. Currently, Matt is pursuing his MBA at the University of Alberta and working with Alberta Health, Strategic Policy Branch.

Fun fact: Matt is the President of Sport Central, a local not-for-profit that collects used sports equipment and distributes it to kids in need.

Alison McMahon

Human Resources Management diploma, 2008


Alison graduated from the HR diploma program in 2008 and obtained her degree in 2010 from Athabasca University.

She is the CEO & Principal Consultant of HR Flex. She brings experience as a consultant, working with small businesses on their human resources strategies. In this role Alison brings expertise to clients in recruitment, orientation, performance management, training and development, employee relations, compensation, leadership and organization design.

Alison served on the board for the Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA) for three years. In addition, Alison is a former term instructor at the MacEwan School of Business.

Fun fact: Alison is an avid snowboarder and loves spending time outdoors.

Jarret Miller

BCom (Management major), 2009


Jarret graduated from the Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in Management in 2009.

After graduation, he moved to Calgary and successfully completed the CMA Strategic Leadership Program in 2014. Jarret is currently working for Avmax Group Inc as a Senior Accountant and is the CFO and co-owner of Magnum Fireworks Ltd., a company that performs 30+ shows per year across Western Canada.

Fun fact: In his final year of university, Jarret participated in a marketing competition where he met an opponent who five years later became his wife. In February 2016, they welcomed their daughter into their growing family.

Josh Morris

BCom (Management major), 2015

Josh graduated from the Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in Management in 2015 and found a role in human resources during the final summer of his degree. He explored the areas of diversity and student recruitment before taking on a generalist position.

Being active on campus during his degree further fueled his desire for a fast-paced and multifaceted life. Josh loves coming up with new ideas and enthusiastically executes them when given the chance.

Fun fact: A true Edmontonian, Josh can literally go on for hours about how great this city is and what opportunities are yet to be uncovered.

Matthew Mowbrey

BCom (International Business major), 2010

Matthew graduated with his Bachelor of Commerce in International Business in 2010. He completed his Bachelor of Law in 2014 at the University of Alberta.

During his time in university, Matthew served as the School of Business representative to the Academic Governance Council and represented his schools in multiple case competitions.

He began his legal career articling with Gerig Hamilton Neeland LLP in Red Deer where he is currently an Associate with a focus on Corporate/Commercial Law and General Litigation.

Fun fact: Matthew is an avid supporter of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes events and has covered several miles in snazzy red heels.

Kaylan Pepin

BCom (Accounting major), 2013


Kaylan graduated from the Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in Accounting in 2013.

He is one of the founding members of the MacEwan University Accounting Club and served as its first President. In its first year, the club introduced MacEwan University’s First Annual Tax Clinic. Kaylan was also a Student Coordinator with the Students’ Association of MacEwan University and the CPA, CMA Ambassador during the merging of the accounting designations. He is currently a Manager in Commercial Banking at CIBC.  

Fun fact: Kaylan has seen The Pirates of the Caribbean movies 70+ times and is constantly trying to trick his friends into watching one of the movies with him.

Amanda Zirk

BCom (Marketing major), 2015

Amanda graduated from the Bachelor of Commerce program with a major in Marketing in June 2015. She returned to university the following September to complete the Public Relations diploma program and successfully passed the Public Relations Knowledge Exam in 2016.

During her time on campus, Amanda was heavily involved in student clubs which guided her to land a communications position after graduation. She loves marketing and PR because she is able to meet new people and make meaningful connections every single day.

Fun fact: Amanda loves to travel and has built over 18 homes and schools in developing countries around the world.

Ariel del Rosario

Asia Pacific Management diploma, 2003

Ariel graduated from the Asia Pacific Management Program in 2003. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta in 2005 and his MBA from the University of Liverpool in 2009.

He assumed multiple sales and marketing roles across various industries before launching Filistix, one of Edmonton’s earliest mobile kitchens. With three locations across the city, Ariel and his partner plan to launch a new food concept and grow the Filistix Group brand.  

Fun fact: Ariel recently discovered the joy of camping with his wife, Jena, and son, Matthan, and plans to do more of it in the future.
