A diverse, complex and global job market – these factors translate into an increasing need for organizations to differentiate themselves through their people practices. Welcome to the world of Human Resources Management, where the pressure to find and retain talented employees requires skilled professionals who can implement forward-thinking practices in the areas of employee compensation, staffing, training and development, and employee relations.

MacEwan’s Human Resources Management program prepares you for a career in HR with a comprehensive, no-nonsense program of study. A balance of practical skills and strategic thinking, the program delivers both general management skills and the very latest in HR-specific training. Subjects include organizational behaviour, labour relations, recruitment and selection, employment law, workplace health and safety training, compensation, and change management.

The program also offers a certificate exit option after completion of the first year of study, and students who complete the full diploma, can transfer directly to the third year of MacEwan's Bachelor of Commerce degree - so you can graduate with both a specialized diploma AND a degree.

CPHR Accreditation

MacEwan University’s Human Resources Management program is now accredited with the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of Alberta (CPHR). As one of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions offering this to students, MacEwan University makes another move to prepare their graduates for success in their careers.

What does this mean?

  • The HR courses you take align with the content tested on the CPHR Designation National Knowledge Exam, making you eligible to have the National Knowledge Exam (NKE) of your designation waived.
  • Graduates from 2012 and onwards who meet the requirements are eligible.

The fine print:

  • You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 in the program.
  • In addition to the NKE portion of the CPHR designation you will also need between three to eight years of professional level HR work experience to achieve the CPHR Designation. Please consult the CPHR website for information on the exact number of years of experience required based on your educational background.
  • You must pay the NKE exam fee when applying to waive the exam.

Visit the CPHR Alberta Designation page which outlines the process required to achieve the designation, and includes information on how to waive the NKE.
