Practicum

Students in this program have the option to complete a practicum placement (called the Business Fieldwork course) in the fourth term of the program. This three-week work experience practicum is on-the-job training: an opportunity to put your management studies theory into practice. Students are not paid for their practicum work.

The only practicum requirement is that it must incorporate practical application of your management studies coursework. Otherwise, your practicum options are limited only by your own interests and enthusiasm. It's a great opportunity to try different companies or industries to see if they fit your career interests.

You'll be responsible for finding your own placement, but program staff will help by providing support and advice. You'll probably rely on the job search techniques you learned in the classroom, including tips and presentations from both successful graduates and potential employers.

Former students have worked in a variety of businesses and organizations on projects like:

  • Developing a business or a marketing plan
  • Conducting market research
  • Organizing staff events or trade shows
  • Taking company-specific management training
  • Completing accounting or budgeting projects
