Denise Roy, Dean
Centre for the Arts and Communications
Since June 2007, Denise Roy has been Dean of the Centre for the Arts and Communications, where she encourages teaching excellence, research, scholarly activity, service and creative achievement.
Denise facilitates academic and professional partnerships and manages the academic leadership team at CFAC. She's responsible for aligning CFAC programs with the strategic directions of the university, faculty recruitment and development, enrolment management, program evaluation, curriculum development, student success strategies, financial operations and facilities management.
Within MacEwan University, Denise serves on the Academic Governance Council and is a member of the Academic Leadership Team and Deans and Directors group. She sits on a number of committees including Academic Title, Presidents Council, CFAC Curriculum, Academic Vision, Digital Asset Management, all CFAC Program Advisory committees and some ad hoc committees.
Background and Education
Denise holds a BA in Recreation Administration and an MEd in Adult Education, both from the University of Alberta. Following her successful career in arts management, she has been employed at MacEwan University for twenty years as a faculty member and chair of the Arts and Cultural Management program, Faculty Development Coordinator and Associate Dean.
Denise has a distinguished record in the cultural community including membership in the City of Edmonton Cultural Hall of Fame, and executive service on organizations such as the Edmonton Arts Council, Canadian Conference of the Arts and Canadian Association of Arts Administration Educators.

Dr. Rey Rosales, Associate Dean
Centre for the Arts and Communications
Dr. Rey Rosales became Associate Dean of the Centre for the Arts and Communications in 2009. He played a key leadership role in the implementation of the new Bachelor of Communication Studies (BCS) degree. He is involved with digital initiatives such as the laptop integration program and web development.
Rey spearheaded a summer training program called the Summer Institute for Digital Education (SIDE). He is one of the main authors of a MacEwan University white paper on future learning space and he currently serves on a host of important university committees such as Academic Leadership Team, Faculty Development, Academic Policy, Facilities Planning, Learning Space and Management, Institutional Planning Research Advisory Council, among others.
Awards and Fellowships
Rey is an award-winning educator and media advisor, and has received numerous journalism fellowships throughout his career. In 2008, he was one of twenty communications faculty fellows in the US who were chosen to participate in the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) weeklong seminar.
Rey has also held fellowships with the American Press Institute (API), American Society of Newspaper Editors (ASNE) and National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) among others.
In 2007 Rey was named by the Associated College Press as the Online Pacemaker Award winner, the highest national award given to a college publication.
In 2005 Rey won the Honor Roll Newspaper Adviser of the Year Award given by the College Media Advisers (CMA) of the US.
Background and Education
Prior to MacEwan University, he was a tenured associate professor at the Department of Communications at Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois where he taught various print and new media courses.
Rey holds a PhD in Journalism from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Rey's research interests include online communication, online education, international communication, and communication theory and effects.
