MacEwan University's new Bachelor of Communication Studies (BCS) degree program combines practice and theory to give you a highly marketable skill set. By combining communication theory and cultural analysis, we give you a communications foundation that will not only get you to work quickly but that will enable you to keep up with the changing landscape of global communications.

Learn

Essential research and communications skills, ethics, and critical problem-solving techniques are key components of the program. We offer two majors:

Journalism Major
• Gather, write and photograph news content
• Create news and graphics that are adaptive to online environments
• Engage and interact with readers
• Analyze and respond to cultural communications needs and trends

Professional Communications Major
• Research and deliver information to specialized audiences
• Use multimedia publication skills
• Write and edit for print and online publications
• Write to be heard (speeches, training, advertising)

Practice

Assignments and Group Projects
• Practice your skills
• Collaborate with other students
• Create a portfolio of work.  

Field Placement
In your third year, we give you the opportunity to put your learning to good use! During a 3-credit, 160-hour field placement, you will gain valuable experience, build your portfolio and do some important networking – all of which will help prepare you to get straight to work after graduation!
