Audition

The audition determines whether or not you have the skills required to be successful in the Theatre Arts program.

Components

  • Two monologues prescribed by the program
  • One Broadway musical song from a prescribed list
  • Dance audition
  • Music theory and ear training assessment exam

If we admit you to the program based upon the other audition components but you fail the music theory and ear training exam, you will need to complete upgrading prior to the start of classes.

Audition dates 2012

Before scheduling your audition, you must apply to the Theatre Arts program and receive your audition information package.
Auditions dates are: March 24 and May 26.

Preparations for the Audition

To prepare for the audition:

  • Memorize the monologues and the song.
  • Read the plays that contain the monologues.
  • Research the musical that contains the song.
  • Develop an emotional attachment to the characters by:
    a. Understanding all the words
    b. Knowing why the characters are saying or singing the words, and to whom they are singing/saying them
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and a willingness to participate in all aspects of the audition.

Selection Criteria

The adjudicators are assessing your:

  • Preparedness
  • Skill level in singing, dancing, and acting
  • Understanding and communication of character
  • Pitch-matching ability and vocal range
  • Ability to pick up a simple dance combination with a sense of rhythm, musicality, enthusiasm and presentation
  • Commitment to studying all three disciplines
