Practicum

You will work on productions staged by students in Theatre Arts, Music, and some outside companies or groups who rent MacEwan University's John L. Haar Theatre for their performances.

Production Week

Classes are suspended for two weeks prior to opening night of Theatre Arts' three major musical productions and two workshop performances.

Positions

For each production, you will apply or bid for positions on the production staff and carry out the duties of the positions you are awarded. Depending on the crew you're on, the time commitment will vary. For example, carpentry begins two weeks before production week and is finished one week before opening night. Lighting crews do little before production week, but put in long hours leading up to a show's opening. Usually a minimum of 150 hours of work per term is required.

Evaluation

Students are evaluated by instructors, supervisors, visiting directors and designers, and by their fellow students.

Connections

Working with professional directors and designers gives you valuable networking opportunities.
