Walk-About Series

Walk-Abouts offer a perfect opportunity for active adults to exercise mind and body. The amount of walking varies. Some take place out-of-doors, some are indoors, while others offer a combination. Participants should have good walking shoes and comfortable clothing. If weather conditions require the cancellation of an outdoor Walk-About, participants will be notified prior to start time. All Walk-Abouts begin promptly at designated times and locations.

Refund Policy: Refunds must be requested at least one week prior to start date. After this date no refunds will be allowed for any circumstances.

Walk-About: Gold Bar Wastewater
Treatment Plant

Gold Bar is one of Canada’s largest tertiary treatment plants. Meeting stringent treatment quality standards, the plant treats upwards of (1,000,000) one million liters annually. The plant’s job is to remove contaminants from the wastewater before returning it safely back to the North Saskatchewan River. Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant is providing the tour as a community service.

Walk-About: St. Albert Cemetery and Little White School House

The City of St. Albert has a history that dates back 150 years. Opened in 1948 the Little White School is now a heritage site that takes visitors back to the two room school house. Join us as we visit St. Albert’s historic sites and learn more about Albert history. After the tour we will enjoy lunch.

Provincial Archives of Alberta

The Provincial Archives of Alberta have a vested interest in the promotion and preservation of records held both within the Archives and in the hands of private members of the community who seek to preserve their own family history and records. For this walk-about we will begin with a Chinese food lunch buffet and then enjoy a behind the scenes tour. The Provincial Archives of Alberta is providing this tour as a community service.

McKay Avenue School and 1881 School House

The year 1904 marked the beginning of an important new era of growth and prosperity in Alberta and the building was designed to reflect this importance and inspire awe and grandeur. The venerable brick building has played an important role in the educational, social and political development of Edmonton and Alberta. Also, Edmonton’s oldest schoolhouse, a wooden frame building, is situated on the same grounds, now known as the 1881 School house, which was the first free public school in Alberta. The Edmonton Public Schools Archives and Museum is Providing this Walk About as a community service.

Walk-About: Clothing and Textiles Collection and Rutherford House

We will begin the tour with a Garden Luncheon at the Arbour Restaurant at Rutherford House. The University of Alberta Clothing and Textiles Collection consists of approximately 15,000 textiles, garments and related artifacts from various time periods and cultures from around the world. We will view the collection in storage along with related artifacts such as fashion plates, books, patterns and tools. The University of Alberta is providing this tour as a community service.

Walk-About: Fun Day at the Races

Sunday brunch starts off this special day. You will receive an official racing program and enjoy an afternoon of horse racing. There will be a group host for the afternoon and a feature race in honour of the Minerva group. There will be a draw for two members of the group to be taken into the winner’s circle and have a souvenir photo taken. There is a group minimum required, so register early.
