The opportunity to integrate theory and practice is a key component of the MacEwan ELCC program. Students spend 200 hours each term placed in a child care program where they develop and practice their skills in a mentored environment.
These fully supervised field placements take place in a variety of settings in the greater Edmonton area:
- Child care centres
- Preschools
- Family support programs
- School-age care centers
- Headstart and early intervention programs
- Family day homes
- Kindergartens
- Women’s shelters
In your two field placements per year you will typically spend eight hours a day, five days a week for five weeks in your placement. You can express a preference for a specific type of setting for Field Placement II, III and IV and the program will do its best to align your placement with your interests.
