Program Overview

 

Alberta Works Learner Income Support (AWIS) Program, administered by Alberta Employment and Immigration (AE&I):

  • provides grants for books, tuition and living allowance
  • provides financial support for adult residents of Alberta who are attending full-time programs
  • supports education that offers the most expedient route to employment
  • supports learners in eligible programs
  • supports certificate programs completed within 12 months
  • supports English as a Second Language and Preparation for University and College programs.

Eligible MacEwan University programs

College Entrance:

  • Preparation for University and College
  • English as a Second Language
  • 89-level Courses

Certificate Programs:

  • Accounting and Strategic Measurement (certificate only)
  • Arts and Cultural Management (certificate only)
  • Emergency Communications and Response
  • English as a Second Language
  • Human Resource Management Certificate
  • Management Studies
  • Office Assistant
  • Special Needs Educational Assistant

 Please note:

Students need to apply to their program of interest, pay the $70.00 application fee, write the placement test (if necessary) and meet with a case manager to determine Alberta Works eligibility.

If grant funding is not available for the current year, students are encouraged to re-apply for the following year.
