To qualify for Alberta Works funding, you must
- be eligible to work in Canada
- be an Alberta resident
- be in financial need
- be in need of training to reach your employment goal.
To further determine your eligibility, go through the following checklist:
Section 1 - Determine General Eligibility
If all the following statements apply to you, you may be eligible for Alberta Works funding:
- I am 18 years or older, or married and my spouse (if applicable) is 18 years or older.
- I am currently unemployed and lack the skills to return to the labour market, or I work fewer than 20 hours per week.
- I have been out of regular high school for at least 12 months.
- I do not have a recent Canadian certificate/diploma/degree from a post-secondary institution.
- I have not exceeded the Alberta Works funding maximum of 30 months.
- I am ready, willing and able to benefit from training at this time. I have researched a realistic career goal and require training to maintain sustainable employment.
- I plan to attend classes regularly in my full-time program and successfully complete all courses to maintain funding eligibility.
Section 2 - Demonstrate Financial Need
It is your responsibility to declare your assets and income honestly when applying for learner benefits. Answering "Yes" to any of the following questions may affect your eligibility.
- Do you or your spouse (if applicable) have any savings, stocks, bonds, term deposits, GICs, etc.?
- Do you and your spouse (if applicable) have RRSPs worth over $100,000?
- Does anyone in your household have a business or farm assets?
- Do you or your spouse own property that is not your primary residence?
