The Residence Handbook
The Residence Handbook is a resource that we've come up with to act as a reference to be able to find out the information that you want to know and what you need to know. In this document, you will find the Community Standards, what to bring, what to leave at home, some tips to living with suitemates, and just about anything else you could want to know about living in residence.
Get Involved
Do you want to have an amazing time in residence and make a tonne of friends? Do you want to go out and participate in some amazing programs like trips to the zoo, organized sports nights, and lounge decorating contests? Well you can do all that if you get out of your room and go to the awesome events that happen on our floor and in the building. Don't let these great social, academic and service oriented events pass you by.
We also run events to get people involved in the greater community. Last year we ran the "Get Involved Fair" where we hosted 25 non-profit organisations. This gave residents a great chance to connect to Edmonton organizations and give back to the area we call home.
The Students Association also has some amazing leadership opportunities. Whether you want to run for a position or just volunteer with them, there's bound to be something that will pique your interest.
Academics
Residence can be a great place to study and learn. We currently have 4 dedicated study lounges throughout the building and we are looking to expand that to having one on each floor. These are perfect for when you need to get out of your room.
We also run a program called the "A Team" to encourage residents to excel academically. If you do well on an assignment or a test, you can come and pick up a ballot to be entered into a draw for some awesome prizes.
The residence also provides a variety of programs that are academically focused. With workshops on resume writing so you can get that summer position and gain work experience to how to write an essay or exam, we want you to succeed.
Social Events
Part of living in residence is getting to know your neighbors. With 882 spots in residence, that's a lot of neighbors. Don't worry though because we have you covered with a variety of fun events where you get to meet them.
Some of the events this past year have included trips to the zoo, a ski trip to Panorama, a variety of sports, floor potlucks, a coffee house to showcase some of the talent that lives in the building and even a city wide amazing race. That's just a taste of what you can expect.
If you're bored you can always hang out in one of the lounges on the floor where there's an expanded sattelite package, or come to the front desk to play pool, foosball or play Wii.
It's also incredibly easy to go to events that take place on the campus as there is almost always something interesting happening around here.
Other Resources
Sometimes we need to ask for help to find things. This is a list of some helpful resources both on and off campus:
Student Resource Centre
This is a great place to go as a one stop shop for all your needs. From financing your education, to advising and counselling services, the Student Resource Centre can help. Check the 'Services' menu at the top of this page to navigate to the Student Service area you need.
Campus Security
These dedicated people are here to help you out and keep you safe. If you have any problems or you notice anything out of place, let them know and they will do their best to help out.
MacEwan Sport and Wellness
Want to really get active, check out these facilities. Chances are that there's something for you tokeep fit and have fun. Also, this is where you can go for the onsite medical centre.
MacEwan Students' Association
If you are a MacEwan student, then the SA is here for you. They run some great events and offer you a chance to get involved and have your voice heard. They also administer your health and dental plan.
MacEwan Diversity Project
This is a great resource for students on many topics around LGBTTQ.
Edmonton Transit System
Edmonton has a great transit system with a mix of rail and bus services. Check out ETS to find a bus route or plan a trip.
