Become a Registered Social Worker in Alberta. MacEwan has earned its reputation for graduating compassionate, professional social workers for over 35 years. Social workers are able to assess and respond to human problems at both an individual and a social, structural level. This requires a certain type of individual, one who is open-minded, empathic, tolerant, and committed to building strong communities. The Social Work curriculum consists of a rigorous academic approach to social work theory and practice, complemented by a number of university transfer Arts electives and field placements. The program values diversity and incorporates culturally sensitive approaches to practice. With dedicated and experienced faculty, a strong commitment to student-centered learning, and the flexibility to complete several courses in a blended online format, the Social Work program prepares students to find employment in a wide range of settings and/or to continue on with university studies. The social work faculty are actively involved in the social work profession, scholarly activity, and research. "I have a better understanding of the world of oppression, abuse, and addictions, as well as hope, resilience, self-empowerment, and the willingness to change and grow." ~ Ken Shand, program graduate
