Grant MacEwan College Announces Opening of the Leslie Nielsen School of Communications

September 30, 2003 Edmonton … In a ceremony today, Grant MacEwan College honoured actor and producer Leslie Nielsen with the opening of the Leslie Nielsen School of Communications. The famous Canadian was on-hand for the ceremony at 1:15 at the college’s campus in west Edmonton.
“Grant MacEwan College is delighted to open the Leslie Nielsen School of Communications,” says college president Paul Byrne. “We are proud to honour someone who has accomplished so much on the world stage, and maintains his ties to Canada and specifically to the City of Edmonton.”
The Leslie Nielsen School of Communications has approximately 600 students in four programs – the Bachelor of Applied Communications in Professional Writing, Journalism, Digital Arts and Media and Visual Communication Design.
“This is a great, great honour,” says Nielsen, who is a veteran of more than 100 motion pictures and 1,500 television appearances. “Edmonton is the city where I grew up. This dedication acknowledges something I have always felt – that Edmonton truly is my home.”
Grant MacEwan College is one of Alberta’s largest and fastest growing colleges. With an annual enrolment of 42,000 full and part-time students, MacEwan offers 74 university transfer, diploma, certificate and applied bachelor degree programs.
