Whether you want to be the leader of a band, a songwriter, producer, recording technician, manager, or just play the occasional gig; the level of skill, training and musical literacy required of musicians in contemporary and commercial music is constantly rising. MacEwan's two-year diploma program has been designed to provide you with world-class academic and performance training in jazz, rock and pop.

In the highly competitive world of music, further education is crucial for a successful and lasting career. Combined with programming uniqueness and an overwhelming demand from students, MacEwan is taking the necessary steps
to begin offering a new four-year degree.

MacEwan's Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music has already gone through Campus Alberta Quality Council review and received approval from the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology.

The majority of Canadian universities that offer music degrees only have the option to major in classical or jazz music. At MacEwan students have the chance to study jazz, rock, and pop, making it one of the few schools in the country with this unique programming.

In the future, students will have the choice to enter either the diploma program (current intake of 90 students per year), or the degree program (proposed intake of 30 students per year).
