At a time when the use of social media technologies is exploding, and traditional story forms are struggling to stay current, it is important to look at the future of storytelling and narrative. What Happens Next? The Future of Story, a two-day conference will explore and examine these issues on Friday and Saturday, February 5 and 6. The conference will feature Corus Entertainment Distinguished Lecturer Hart Hanson, a Gemini Award-winning Canadian film and television writer and producer, and creator of the long-running Fox Television series Bones. Hanson will speak about the shifting role of narrative in an evolving literary environment. Special guest Jack Hodgins, a Governor General's Award-winning novelist, will also read from his soon-to-be published novel entitled The Master of Happy Endings. "The conference will also feature local personalities who will share their perspectives about key issues facing the literary, media, and communication professions in the 21st century," says Sherrell Steele of MacEwan's School of Communications. "We have developed a flexible package," says Sherrell. "You can attend Friday evening, all day Saturday or both." The conference takes place at MacEwan's John L. Haar Theatre, located at the Centre for the Arts and Communications campus (10045 - 156 Street, Edmonton). To view the schedule of events, click here.
