In this sense, Project HOPE serves to bridge the divide between our community and others within Latin America Project HOPE 2009-2010: In May 2010, the team will travel to the BOSAWAS Biosphere in Northern Nicaragua. The area is the largest expanse of protected tropical rainforest outside of the Amazon Basin. In keeping with tradition, we partnered with Edmonton-based NGO Change for Children and its Nicaragua-based partner, Centro Humboldt. We will fund and participate in the construction of two classrooms for middle and high schools students in the community of San Andres. As the largest rainforest reserve north of the Amazon, the BOSAWAS is an important global carbon sink. Its health, therefore, is important not only to Nicaragua's indigenous peoples, but the global community. Our Partners Change for Children is an Edmonton based NGO that promotes action for systemic change and sustainable development through solidarity and partnership, by nurturing community, and by maintaining an integral, vital and stable organization. www.changeforchildren.org Centro Humboldt is a Nicaraguan based NGO working to promote sustainable community development projects involving access to clean water, environmental preservation, and developing the capacity of indigenous governments to ensure sustainable land and resource management. www.humboldt.org.ni 2009-2010 Project HOPE Team
