Walk for Darfur
Walk for Darfur logo
On April 22, 20 students from Grant MacEwan College will embark upon an eight-day walk from Calgary to Edmonton, journeying over 30 km a day along the Queen Elizabeth II Highway to raise awareness of the human rights violations in Darfur.

Over the past several months, students from Grant MacEwan College have joined together in their concern of raising public awareness of the violence and suffering in Darfur. This initiative of SA Global Projects has evolved into an organization committed to making a difference, We are the youth of Walk for Darfur.

Through the walk, we hope to inspire all people to create a movement of action. The funds we raise along the way will be sent directly to our beneficiary organization Médecins Sans Frontières who remain one of the last humanitarian Non-Government Organizations operating in the war torn region of Darfur, Africa. Enduring only a small fraction of the immense suffering the people of Darfur experience everyday, we will walk for peace, we will walk for global action, and we will walk for the people of Darfur.

We are campaigning Walk for Darfur to both the general public and the leaders of our country, encouraging people to get involved at all levels: writing letters to politicians, donating to provide humanitarian assistance, and lobbying for Canadian involvement in ending the suffering of more than 4 million people in Darfur. Through the power of media – both locally and nationally – we hope to share our story with all of Canada and pressure the international community to act now.

If you would like more information about Global Project's Walk for Darfur or to get involved, contact Dave Johnson at 497-5648.
