Reference Services Library Technician

MacEwan University Library is seeking a Reference Services Library Technician to provide reference services at the John L. Haar Library located at the City Centre Campus. This 8-month recurring term position extends from September to April each year. The successful candidate will have a wide range of responsibilities including overseeing reference desk scheduling, assisting librarians with the delivery of library instruction, conducting library tours, assisting with the development of social media content and part-time reference staff training.

The ideal candidate will have a strong customer and public services orientation, excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Applicants must be flexible, comfortable working in a team environment, and have strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Experience working with academic databases and the Symphony Integrated Library System is a definite asset.

Applicants must possess a library technician diploma from an accredited program and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing reference assistance in a post-secondary (or large public) library. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
