The Department of Human Services and Early Learning encompasses three programs: Special Needs Educational Assistant certificate, Early Learning and Child Care diploma, and Bachelor of Applied Human Service Administration. These programs prepare students to support the learning of others in community, educational and early learning settings as well as to become managers and leaders in the human service field.
The Department of Human Services and Early Learning invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2018, subject to final budgetary approval.
The Department is seeking faculty with a proven commitment to ethical educational practice, advocating for the rights of children and youth, creating inclusive learning environments, facilitating community practice and empowerment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching skills in one or more of the following areas: individualized instructional strategies and curriculum development, assistive and adaptive technologies, learning development and disability/exceptionalities, research methodologies, child growth and development, practicum supervision, program management, and leadership development.
In addition to an interdisciplinary teaching workload within the Department, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly activity related to the Department and/or Faculty, demonstrate a passion for teaching undergraduate students and have a willingness to engage in service to the Department, Faculty, and University.
Preferred candidates will hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or a related field with a focus on special education, disability or community rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will have current knowledge of learning theory, Alberta K-12 curriculum, school-based practice and educational leadership. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching and an ongoing interdisciplinary research program. Applicants should have a minimum of 3 years of experience working directly with children and youth in school-based settings or a combination of school-based practice and other related experiences.
