MacEwan University is looking for a Systems Analyst to join the Web Architecture and Development team. This technical position requires an individual who can troubleshoot and problem solve, with experience in configuring and tuning web application servers, managing web applications, integrating with web services, and developing website templates and web applications. The position requires the ability to install a Linux server on a virtual machine to test new ideas and technologies. The successful candidate will need to be service oriented, and respond to client requests by analyzing their technology needs, and coming up with an effective solution.
You will need to work well in project teams that can vary in background and makeup, but you also will need to have the ability to complete activities independently. You will roll out your solutions following MacEwan University’s standards. The individual should be inquisitive, eager to learn new technologies, and not afraid to ask the right questions. You will need to communicate well with others, including those who may not be as well versed in technology as you are.
Technical knowledge required: Ability to configure, tune and troubleshoot web application runtime environments and their installed applications, particularly using Java VMs, Java Servlet containers, and PHP. Writing web page templates and components in PHP.
Technical knowledge that would be very helpful: A working knowledge of the Linux operating system, Oracle WebLogic application server, Apache Tomcat servlet container, Apache web server, XML, JSON, SOAP, REST, and MySQL.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, information technology or related discipline, or diploma in related discipline combined with relevant on-the-job experience. Equivalents and work experience will be considered. Minimum of 5 years’ experience with systems and application management, specifically in web technologies is required.
