Budget Coordinator

The Budget and Resource Planning team in the Finance department is seeking a self-motivated and client service driven individual for the position of Budget Coordinator.

This full-time continuing position is expected to play a supporting role in the preparation of the university’s annual budget and quarterly forecast. This role also provides assistance in completing other institutional financial reporting requirements. The successful candidate will be expected to provide assistance to our clients throughout the University with budget, forecast, and accounting support. The budget coordinator will prepare budget journal entries and provide the required background analysis when dealing with various types of budget requests. The role will also from time to time be expected to provide ad hoc analysis and support to other areas of Finance and throughout the University; including Position budget management and analysis, and other departmental budget analysis requests.

The successful candidate would also serve as a functional analyst, by providing assistance to resolve technical issues, apply software updates and enhancements, develop operational reports/queries, and conduct other day to day operational budget system maintenance. The successful candidate will work under the guidance and supervision of senior members of the Budget and Resource Planning team.

The successful candidate will have a Chartered Professional Accounting Designation (CPA), along with a minimum of three to four years’ experience in a medium sized organization working with financial databases in Enterprise Resource system; such as PeopleSoft, SAP, or JD Edwards. Equivalencies may be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with PeopleSoft experience and the ability to link system requirements to the accounting requirements in a public-sector organization.

The candidate must be proficient in the use of Excel, and be able to work with other Microsoft Office applications such as Word, or PowerPoint. Experience with the Hyperion application is not required, but would be considered a definite asset.

The ideal candidate will have strong skills in problem solving, investigative, analytical, and the ability to recommend solutions; have excellent verbal and written communication skills; have a solid understanding of accounting and budgeting in medium sized organizations; have good attention to detail; able to work with competing deadlines independently, and in a team setting. The candidate should also have an aptitude for working with information technology, especially as it applies to budgeting and forecasting.
