The Early Learning and Child Care Program is a two-year diploma program that prepares graduates for work in a variety of early childhood settings (0-12 years), including daycares, preschools, early intervention and family support programs. The diploma program emphasizes the integration of theory with practice and includes extensive field placement hours. The MacEwan Early Learning and Child Care Lab School supports the academic, research and service mission of the diploma program.

The Early Learning and Child Care Program in the Faculty of Health and Community Studies invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2018, subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated teaching skills in one or more of the following subject areas: child growth and development, play and early learning pedagogy, emergent curriculum, early literacy, positive child guidance, working with families and field placement practicum supervision. The candidate should also have familiarity with Play, Participation and Possibilities: An Early Learning and Child Care Framework for Alberta. The program is seeking faculty with a proven commitment to promoting quality early childhood education, ethical early learning practice, a passion for teaching undergraduate students, and a willingness to engage in service to the program, university and community. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the development of a degree in Early Childhood Education with the Early Learning and Child Care Program faculty. Knowledge and skill in degree development will be welcomed.

Preferred candidates will hold a Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education or related field (i.e. Education, Human Ecology, Child and Youth Care, Pedagogy) and current knowledge of early learning theory, curriculum and practice. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching and an ongoing research program. Applicants should at minimum have 2 years of experience working directly with children and families in early learning and child care programs.
