The University’s Faculty of Nursing includes the Department of Nursing Science that offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) degree; the Department of Psychiatric Nursing that offers a Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN), as well as a Psychiatric Nursing Diploma; and two centres. The Centre for Professional Nursing Education offers a mosaic of innovative continuing education programs grounded in evidence-based practice and responsive to a dynamic health care environment. The Clinical Simulation Centre (CSC) is 27,000 square feet of authentic clinical spaces that set the stage for students to practice skills and employ critical thinking in a realistic learning environment.
The Department of Psychiatric Nursing is guided by an academic strategic plan that commits to: 1) being a leader in psychiatric nursing education, 2) excellence in research and scholarship, and 3) an inclusive and engaged community. It offers a two and one-half year Psychiatric Nursing Diploma, delivered in Edmonton or Ponoka, and a post-diploma Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing, delivered by distance. Psychiatric nursing education and practice is advanced through the development and delivery of high quality, innovative programming; strong professional, academic and clinical partnerships; and attention to professional standards, changing trends and societal needs.
Applications are invited for Nurse Educator clinical teaching positions in the Department of Psychiatric Nursing’s Edmonton and Ponoka campuses. Preferred candidates will hold a baccalaureate degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or Nursing and at least three years of current nursing practice within psychiatric/mental health settings or medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting. A graduate degree is preferred.
The successful candidate will have enthusiasm for teaching, an appreciation for inter-professional collaboration, solid nursing knowledge, as well as strong interpersonal skills. Licensure or eligibility for licensure with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) is required for teaching psychiatric nursing clinical courses. Licensure or eligibility for licensure with the College and Association of Registers Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) is required for teaching medical/surgical clinical courses. Previous teaching experience is an asset.
The nurse educator position is full-time over 9 months with a comprehensive 12-month benefits package. The position start date is mid-late August 2018.
