Custodial Lead Hand

The Lead Hand will be responsible for providing hands-on oversight to custodial staff, assisting the Supervisor in staff training, and providing back-up supervision for the Supervisor in multiple work sections on the night shift. This individual will perform custodial duties in a set section or designated task across many sections (e.g. operating floor scrubber/sweeper), as well as train new custodians in key custodial tasks and provide direction and oversight to a set number of custodians.
The skills and experience that are necessary for this position are: excellent interpersonal skills, excellent problem-solving skills, a strong working knowledge of custodial processes, strong working knowledge of sustainability and current waste reduction/disposal and recycling processes, able to work independently as well as within a team, strong supervisory skills, good mechanical aptitude, and strong computer skills.
This position requires someone who is physically fit, has strong interpersonal skills, and has good written and verbal communication skills.
A High School Diploma, First Aid and CPR certificates, ISO Training, WHIMIS certification, Facilities Green Cleaning Program or other related custodial training are required. A supervisory, leadership, or management certification would be beneficial. A minimum of 5 years of extensive custodial and building operations experience within a large complex or public institution is required.
