Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Security Services, this position is key to the day to day communication function primarily of Security Services but also for facilities operations and other university departments.  The Dispatcher is the first contact for emergency calls for service and can trigger the Incident Management System (ICS).  The Dispatcher answers the telephone, maintains contact and dispatches the security workers through the MacEwan's FM radio system, takes down complaints and personal information, and creates/maintains a daily Security Services activity log. In addition to dealing with clients over the telephone, the position also provides front counter support at Security Services to receive complaints, deal with lost and found items, and any general inquiries regarding the university.  The dispatcher monitors the CCTV screens, and monitors all building plant systems and door alarms.  This position offers a support function to the facilities work group by maintaining a call out ledger of maintenance workers, distributes keys to staff and faculty, submits work order requests to the facilities support centre, while maintaining a log of equipment failure.  The dispatcher maintains an up-to-date contractors list for facilities, issues contractor passes and keys for access to work areas, and provides communication to any workers on the roofs of buildings if there are weather alerts or emergencies that they would have to evacuate. This role is the main contact for anyone needing assistance outside MacEwan's business hours (e.g. any staff or students traveling or studying abroad).

This position is held accountable to all MacEwan University policy and procedures developed by Emergency Preparedness and Security Services in delivering service.
